hummeldike
I bought an electric burner, and I was wondering how hot it gets. It's this one: http://www.oster.com/cooking/burners/CKSTSB100-B-2NP.html Thank you, this forum has helped a lot.
TYRONEEZEKIEL
It will get hot enough to ignite any pyro comp. That is a safe assumption. I am going to assume you will use it for rcandy. Make sure you dissolve the rcandy in water before you apply the heat. It is much much safer and makes a far superior product. I've never had a batch flare up on me when I dissolved it. When I tried to just melt the dry sugar, it was a nightmare every time. I'm lucky I never got burned with how many times it caught fire in the pan
MrB
In answer to the original question. Electric hotplates generally go from 90'ish to 260 Celsius. But thats with something on them.Bad contact, or nothing on a hotplate, and it can make the darn thing cherry red, which puts it somewhere above the 800 Celsius limit that really isn't good for iron...I guess it boils down to if the hotplate has a over heat cut-off bi-metal switch. If not, there is nothing stopping it from melting it's way through the table. If it has, it stops at what ever the cut-off is. Should be easy enough to open and find out. Easy, but warranty voiding. Easy way to check it and keep your warranty. Set it to max without anything on the plate. If the thermostat light flickers on / off after a while, then it's upper range is limited. If not, then turn it of when it starts to show signs of red on the plate.B!
Eagle66
I use a 1000 W & a 750 W electric hotplate with the coils like an ordinary electric stove. Either one of them will get hot enough to melt lead in a tin can pot. The 1000 can get the lead over 800 F. or about 426 C. I haven't checked how far over that, because when I am casting bullets or lead ball, I do it at about 750 F tops. I have gone over 800 when I was melting a smaller amount than my usual 6-8 lbs.
