Reading through posts I have seen reference to "kewl boomer" and "bomb dood". what are these? are they people that were banned? from the vibe of most of the posts it seems like they exhibited bad and possibly illegal behavior. please help me understand. being new I don't have a full grasp on the vernacular. my service in the military taught me the only dumb question is the one I did not ask. thanks for your time!

Kids that show up only interested in making big salutes.

longbeard, One year ago, those terms stumped me, since none of my dictionaries nor translators could help. Although I am somewhat proud of my English fluency, people here will think it strange that a "foreigner" is the one to answer you. Those terms, often containing number substitutions for letters, are defined by common usage and refer to individuals who are irresponsible in their use of pyrotechnic devices and who have little interest in the artistic concepts involved in this hobby. It seems they are immature or lack judgment, seeking a dangerous thrill from pyrotechnic compounds.

Someone will correct me here if that's an inaccurate definition.

This might help you understand it a bit. Mostly stems from a good time ago when the internet was relatively new, and you would see a lot of kids who thought it was cool to spell things retardedly. In this topic of discussion they mostly were just looking for a way to make something that would blow up.

Kewl bomber, kewl boomer, bomb dood... All "nicknames" for people with a short expected lifespan, or at least competing for Darwin awards. It's weird that they are so frowned at, since a lot of us, pretty much everyone i've talked to, started out that way, be it that most were a lot more careful then people we see these days.

But then again, is i've said elsewhere, i started out making "firecrackers" out of primary explosives, and modifying commercial fireworks. I'm pretty certain i would qualify as a kewl bomber by todays standards, back then, and yet when i had my day in court, the experts verdicts were unanimous. Both production, and storage had been in a way that was safe for the surroundings. (and, me)

Still, i got these bits of plastic shrapnel in me that i'll carry around to the day that i die. PPE, i was wearing it, saved my life.

MrB, Did you see psycho_1322's link? " Kewl is the swedish word for describing something/someone funny." I knew it, you are Kewl.

Thanks folks. Great information. I understand why these people are frowned upon. Even the damage a low grade explosive do to flesh is terrible. individuals who put themselves and others in danger ,out of ignorance, trying to be "cool" with pyro is behavior I will never understand. Just reading posts of some of the unfortunate accidents some forum members have experienced have really solidified my decision to read about pyro and observe technique for my first year. once i have a good understanding of safety and materials and their relationships I think that I would like my first project to be the manufacture of black powder. thanks folks for you time and response.

The link actually says...

kewl

A stupid way of spelling "cool". Made up by morons.

"I'm a stupid w**** who spells cool "kewl"

A more popular spelling is leet, "k3wl"

Check the third suggestion for the Swedish connection. I would agree that it's k3wl, and supposed to be "cool" said in a "cool way"

Anyone who says cool as "kewl" is obviously under the age of 14 and should not be making fireworks until they know what they are doing.

It doesn't work that way. I know 12 year olds that do pyro. Supervised, of course. Sure, they don't SAY kewl... Might type it.
