jeffro61 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 In my line of work, fire spinning, we use titanium alloy (with aluminum and vanadium) on a kevlar wick fueled with Coleman camp fuel to add a sparkling effect to the flame. We have recently had inquiries regarding the safety of inhalation of titanium alloy fumes. While I realize that toxic fumes may be produced, does anyone have any input about the level of danger created by burning approximately .3 oz of titanium alloy over a 5 minute period in a ventilated area? Thanks!
dagabu Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 It's classified as a nuisance smoke when burnt, when TIG welding Ti, there are no special respiratory precautions and Ti is really not readily absorbed in the body. Just use the same precautions as you would with any smoke.
