Differential Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Honestly, I'm still having some trouble with copper borate. It makes a beautiful turquoise in a methanol flame, but it doesn't add any color to Rcandy, and it slows down the burn rate. I used 7 parts potassium nitrate, 3 parts sugar, and 1 part copper borate. With 1 part aluminum powder, the burn rate increases, but still no color. I used a 2:1 mix of copper borate and aluminum powder (near stoichiometric), but it was hard to light. When I added 2 parts KMnO4, it burned faster, and had just a hint of green. Still, it might work well with a perchlorate mix. I figured that since both borax and copper salts are used as pesticides, copper borate would be more poisonous, but since it's insoluble, maybe not.
schroedinger Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Well your mixes won't be able to work, because you lack chloride or a high temperature.
