pyrokid
I encountered this video: What type of effect is this? It displays discrete flashes in the manner of strobe stars, but it appears that each star flashes only once, and the flashes aren't as vigorous as those of strobe stars made with formulas familiar to me. How are they doing it?

spitfire
I think they tried to make something like a matrix star effect: gold with red microstars. Look at the tail as the bombettes go up. It's similar to the actual break effect. Might also be caused by the camera, they tend to deform a lot of weak colors. ...or the manufacturer tried to make color changing stars, gold tail to red. But failed on the size of the stars? Or gold with flash core... Looks like a mess to me, judging the video.
boule
I think they tried to make something like a matrix star effect: gold with red microstars. It might also be that they decided to create a strobe effect without strobe comp by just making fast burning microstars as cores and a little bit of dark relay or a thick BP-prime layer.
