what diameter nichrome wire is a good size to use to ignite visco fuse

Well, it's resitance has to be higher than wires resistance. I've got mine from old hair drier, and it's like 0,2mm, works fine for me, using 12v

it's a fine line between being to hot and quickly burned through and too fat and never heating. Depends a lot on the lead lengths to the battery. 50 wire gauge is for fast igniters 30 gauge wire is probably better for non pyro igs, anything finer uses a lot of current. Get a decent battery on short wires.

Also helps to coat any electric igniter with a pyrogen.

Pyrogen helps pass fire BUT in places where these should be for professional use only, having "home user" hot wire igniters is nicer.

A pyro igniter tends to need about 50gauge wire, to light a pyrogen, with about 500mA for about 20ms.

A wire igniter tends to need fatter wire (about 30g) no pyrogen, and take an amp or more for up to half a minute.- these need the cable to carry the current without excessive volts drop.
