Has anyone used dry wall tape to paste shells? I thought I would try it with some CMC to glue it. It's pretty strong stuff and I made a cutter to cut it down to 3/4" strips.

I didn't think CMC was glue but more a gelling agent? Also, a lot of people don't like to litter the ground with man made materials. I'm sure most of us are OK with paper and string but it might work.

Drywall tape is paper. As far as I know all fireworks materials are a man made product. Even drywall is paper and powdered mineral rock. I saw a video where the guy used CMC as glue for pasting so I thought I might try it.

I tryed using the drywall tape, and i found it to be about twice as fast to wrap.. i think its great..dont have to wait to dry. it seems to mold perfectly to shell..its very forgiving..to be honest im amess when i wrap with paper. i was going to ask the forum the same thing..sooo.

Man made was wrong and I meant sythetic not biodegradable, etc. The rolls I have laying around are some type of plastic resin or maybe fiberglass. Something that looks like it would lay in a field forever. Maybe it is some type of repair tape but I thought it was the average roll that is hanging in a Home Depot.

But there is a reason paper has been the main material used in fireworks for well over a hundred years. If the material you have is paper it might work fine. But what are the odds there ends up a path to the center thru the holes that the pressure of the lift finds it's way in along with flames/hot gasses? Probably not great, but not zero either. Even traditionally made shells fail sometimes.

I guess I'll just have to try it and see what it does. When I do I'll video it and post it here. Thanks.

I tried it and it doesn't work very well at all. It won't absorb the glue well enough to stick. Oh well, it was worth trying.
