Why did my Smoke bomb do this?

Kn03 60% air float

Con. Sugar 40%

Cooked until golden brown, spooned into ketchup cup with fuse. Didn't make a hole first.

Thanks

Hate to said this , but that was petty much rocket fuel you have made there. I will come back with a smoke mix in a little while ...................................Pat

Oops. Skylighter had this formula as smoke mix but didn't say to cook it. My first test was just screened not cooked and it had a lot of smoke and flame. I thought if I melted it all together I could eliminate the flame and make more smoke. Maybe I should have added some baking soda to slow it down?

The one I found is call the "legendary Smoke Bomb". Now this one calls for KNO3 60g, WAX 40g and SUGAR 40g.

Melt the wax then add the KNO3 and Sugar mix well, after which you pour (or spoon) the mixer into a container to restrict air contact as it burns.

I have seen other smoke that uses just the 60-40 mix as you used. So I do not claim to know what when wrong with your first mix, but your right that it needs to burn alot slower......................Pat

Thanks Pat. My first smoke bomb was:

Potassium Nitrate (kno3) 47g of air float

Confectioners' Sugar - 25g powered

Candle Wax - 28g

Red Iron Oxide - 2g airfloat

Total: 102 Grams or 3.6 Ounces

But I had a hard time getting it to light, I even used a prime.

I'll try your method next. :)

The formula you posted is already quite close to the formula for the "legendary smoke bomb". More than likely, there was an air pocket in there in your recent attempt. The mix, especially when melted together, is quite energetic. I prefer packing it into tubes. I do generally prefer a formula with wax or a carbonate to help slow it down some, and help prevent it from flaring up.
