MWJ
Is the length of the mortar important? I have read on hear 18" but he one I want to buy for my 1.75" shells are only 12". The 18" one might have been for a larger shell. 12- Consumer HDPE Mortar Tube - Plugged - Fireworks Mortar Tubes - Mortar Tubes
nater
Yes, the length of the mortar tube is important. Mortars for consumer shells are typically 12", but some use 15". I cannot notice a difference in display height between the two, but most consumer shells don't have a long enough fuse for longer mortars. Stick to a 12" DR11 1.91" ID mortar for consumer shells and you can fire just about any consumer shell safely. Even DR9 works, but some premium canister shells will need persuasion to fully seat on the plug. Mortars for 3" shells are usually around 18". Multibreaks need longer mortars than single breaks.

Arthur
Something in the region of five to six times the bore is a good length. a 2" shell will rise well from a 12" tube but a six inch shell would NOT!Slightly longer and shorter tubes can be used to layer shells in the sky.
