caineroad
Can you guys please take a look at this video, i made my first smoke bomb using 6/4/3.3 ratio (kno3, sugar, wax). It turned out great at the beginning then turned into an aggressive fire. I remember when I was making a hole for the fuse, i dropped a pen into the bomb, it was stuck so i just let it sit in there. Is that the likely reason for this case? I want to make a successful smoke bomb. Please help! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x49ztwJc50 Edited February 13, 2014 by caineroad
shouldnoteatindat
has this happened to your smoke bombs multiple time? if not i would just try again and see what happens.
caineroad
It's my first ever smoke bomb. I just made another one with the fuse directly put into the tube instead of using a pen to make a hole for it. I think it may succeed this time. But does a pen able to cause such large fire, i think ink is flammable and it may burn the whole tube too quickly. No idea.
caineroad
Just a sudden thought, while this was a failure for making a smoke bomb. It was a success if anyone wants to make an aggressive flame/fire bomb! I don't think I have come across a 'fire grenade' before. The fire persisted at least 45 seconds. I had to stop the video to take a picture for a friend, the fire continued for a while after we finished taking picture. The bomb you saw was actually at least 15cm below the snow, so the fire was actually a lot stronger than in video! caineroad
BTW, if I double the quantity of the ingredients and put in a larger tube. Does the smoke doubles? or am I asking for trouble using larger quantity?
shouldnoteatindat
doubling it would be more likely to be a fire ball but if you put it in a longer tube iy should have the same effect but longer
LambentPyro
If it were me, I'd make a bentonite nozzle and put the fuse through the hole and then close off the other end with a paper disc. bob
My earlier smoke bombs did this exact thing. What I found to be the cause was the mix was getting too much O2 because the top had burnt out. So all I had to do to solve this was to put more aluminum foil ontop of the pop can (I use a pop can full of the smoke comp, l then rap it with aluminum foil, use a pen to punch a hole it, and let it cool) you may have to add some pieces of paper on the midle layers of foil. Hope this helpbob Edited February 13, 2014 by bob
caineroad
Bob I think that's really reasonable. I basically just taped the top up with several layers of electrical tape, I will now put a few layers of aluminium foil on top and tape over them. I will see how this new one goes, may have to wrap the bottom as well. But will see. Thanks so much!
psyco_1322
That flaming is caused by all the atomized wax catching fire. The solution to this usually is to just decrease the size of the nozzle a tad. I'd been making paraffin smokers since before the "Legendary" smoke shit started, since that guy wrongly gets all the credit for it. I'd didn't come up with it, but a guy that went by Frogfot did, to the best of my knowledge, since I had never seen or heard of it when I came across it. The ones I was making were in metal soup cans. You would cut the top into pleats, so you could load and close the can by folding over the pleats. Effectively the can really only has about 1/2 of the original volume to use for comp. Before loading, you drill small holes around the top (under the cuts) for gas vents. Made some great smokers for sure!
VikingPyrotechnics
I like the paraffin smokes. No idea who came up with the name "legendary"? Just be aware that you have enough aluminum foil wraps. Pretty simple and effective. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7oSEmhB8As
caineroad
Finally a success. Thanks for the feedbacks, what I found out for my case was empty toilet roll tend to get burned up and would create a fireball. So I used those thin soda can, wrapped the top with few layers of tin foil (to make the hole smaller). It worked flawlessly!! I am still trying to improve it so the fuse/comp continues to burn if I throw it. I've been testing throwing the bombs but every time the snow gets in from the hole and the spark/fire gets put out very easily. Anyone have suggestion how to solve this issue? I mean if it's summer I throw it on the grass probably it wouldn't have this problem? Anyone share their experience with throwing smoke bombs, all videos on youtube seem to indicate they light smoke bombs on the ground instead of throwing them. dave321
you might think that's a lot of smoke, but in reality its a pretty muchwashed out , thin smoke with no real covering/ screening power at all. compare it to a proper screening smoke using cinnamic acid or terephthalic acidand you will easily seen the difference....they are in another league entirely
Mumbles
It's generally a bad idea to light anything in your hand. I can send you some videos of that going horribly wrong if you're interested. Even smoke bombs have the capability of exploding violently.
