Noob question..Which one to start with?

Hi all,

Let me just introduce myself. I am from Delhi, India. In love with fireworks. Have done few commercial pyrotechnic shows for weddings. So, the concept of using slow fuse, quick match, nail board method and remote firing is quite clear to me.

Now, i want to start making my own fireworks. Since, KNO3 and chlorate/perchlorate is not available here which fireworks can i start with?

Will do a lot of reading before starting a project with safety precautions.

I downloaded the turbopyro ebook but it requires black powder in almost everything.

Will appreciate ur guidance.

Also, making a pyrotechnic museum in India (personal but pyrotechies are welcome anytime). The reason i started making a museum is that in India everyyear a few companies crop up and then, they die away. Each and everyone has a unique label and logo which i love.

Here are some thread showing my cracker collection.

If you can't even get potassium nitrate, you're basically already done. Blackpowder forms the basis for everything we do. You honestly cannot participate in this hobby without it.

Hi Pyrodoc,

As Mumbles said it would be nearly impossible to get by without KN03, however I am almost certain that you can get KN03. Send this guy a pm as he is also from India and makes beautiful fireworks.

Thanks bob,

I have just pmed Ben for his guidance.I am sure he will help me out. I know few people who make black powder as they are licenced to produce it. But, i dont trust their composition. I had procured black match from them for a show

Its not too difficult to get pyrotechnic chemicals in India.

you have to find who supplies it.....I guarantee KNO3 is easily and Cheaply available.

just google search "KNO3 suppliers in India" or Contact pyrotechnic companies in Sivakasi.

Hi Dhiraj,

I've heard that some regions in Punjab are big sources for mineral saltpeter. Check them. However a word of caution. I'm originally from Calcutta and lived in Delhi too. Homemade fireworks are not as prevalent in Delhi as in Calcutta. Considering the security measures at Delhi, be a little cautious when you procure your stuff.

If i dont get pyrotechnic grade i believe will have to settle for fertilizer grade saltpeter. I wont be buying chlorate or perchlorate as they are offically banned. Charcoal sulphur n others are available.

God fertilizer grade, is what most people are using here.
