MWJ Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 This is a plastic egg shell that I got from the dollar store. Wait for it, wait for it.........boom!
MWJ Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 Thanks Mumbles! That means a lot to me. I'm on the way to a great new hobby!
asdercks Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Nice! it made me remember the first shell I shot , you're doing great, keep on the good work, also you should consider buying some small I.D. paper shells to keep practicing, it feels great when your start to accomplish more symetrical breaks.
MWJ Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 The shell I used I had to glue on a nipple for the fuse to go in to give it a bit of time before exploding. When I glued the outer shell on, it didn't seal very good because I got hot glue in the seam. I thought I would get some 1.75" plastic casings next. Do you think paper casings would be better? I want to start small to keep it simple until I get better and more confident doing this.
asdercks Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 (edited) I would go with either 1.75" or 2" paper shells as they both will fit into a dr-11 mortar tube, I personally prefer the 2" ones. here's a vid of some 2" shells I shot on NYE 2013 Edited February 2, 2014 by asdercks
LambentPyro Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Nice job, I like the dense Willow sparks! You're off to a great start. Keep up the good work and stay safe and you'll find yourself making 6" shells not too long from now. Remember, "he who hath once smelt the smoke..."
asdercks Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Very cool! Those are 2"?yes MWJ those were 2" paper shells, break charge was KP coated rice hulls. I was surprised at how cool these little shells can actually look.
Coulterbart Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Not bad at all. Congratulations! Looks like your lift worked correctly. Did you add more or let what you had dry longer? I would go with paper shells myself. I like working with them better and will give you better breaks without having to boost as much or at all.
MWJ Posted February 2, 2014 Author Posted February 2, 2014 I used my FFFG for break charge. I did dry my BP out more (forgot to weigh before and after) but haven't tried it again yet. I put 8g of FFFG break in and glued a fuse nipple on. My first a temp flower potted so I installed the nipple and that did the job. Thanks for all of your help.
BrainDamage Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 nice videos both of you asdercks lets see some tutorials great job guys 1
Bobosan Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Coming along nicely, MWJ. Good job for a first shell.
Pyrodood Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Looked cool! You are totally hooked now, hehe. 1
MWJ Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 I am hooked. I just got to get my wife hooked so she doesn't complain about the money I have been spending. She's pretty understanding.
Peret Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 That was better than my first shell, MJW. Interesting pattern it made, though, firing all in one direction like a horsetail. That might mean all your burst had collected in one end instead of being in the middle. If that was your wife shouting "cool" in the video, sounds like you're off to a good start. Now you need to get her to make and fire a shell of her own and she'll be hooked. Thanks to my wife, I have more of those plastic eggs than I will ever use. She dragged me into Walmart the week after Easter and pointed out the plastic eggs on discount, something like $0.99 for a bag of 24, and encouraged me to buy "many". She uses them for her rocket headers.
MWJ Posted February 10, 2014 Author Posted February 10, 2014 Thats very cool, that your wife helps out! I'm going to have to get her involved too. Maybe she wont complain so much when she get the Visa bill.
Sparx88 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Well I guess I'm the late arrival, sorry been a real busy week. Nice shell for the 1st, I like those fat pine bp stars too
