Carbon796 Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Yes its true, from FireFox "Gary and I would like to thank all of you for your support and backing. We are still in business but reeling from the decision of the Federal Court and ask for your patience with us while we pick ourselves up and get put back together. We are including a couple of support links to some websites that have very good information for you, as well as the link to the Fireworks Foundation. Please contribute. To our friends in the high power rocketry industry, we can still supply Ammonium Perchlorate with no ATFE (ATFE is only required for full drums). Those sending a current, signed ATFE may continue to purchase any of the fuels, oxidizers and materials that the court has restricted. Our prices are still the best available. We are counting on those in the hobby and professional fields who do not yet have ATFE's to obtain them. You will need one eventually. Designated responsible persons holding their club license may order any of these materials as well. Bulk, large orders are shipped by stanydard Motor Freight. Email, fax or call for details (contact information at the bottom of the page)." http://www.firefox-fx.com/CPSC.htm
Sparx88 Posted January 20, 2014 Author Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) So then is this for every distro? I assume our only choice is to order from different vendors until we have what we need then huh. It's not like I needed large amounts of this stuff it just pisses me off that I'm being regulated once again. I wasn't invited and did'nt get to vote so I don't agree with it. And thats right diddy. Well, I guess it's license application time. Type 50 and 54 I suppose. Edited January 20, 2014 by Sparx88
LambentPyro Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Its only restrictions for Firefox, not for all. They got in trouble some how and th ATF put limits on what they sell to keep them in business. That's why some pyro stores do and don't have restrictions.
Bobosan Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 IIRC, it resulted from complaints to the Consumer Protection Agency.
FlaMtnBkr Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) It only applies to Firefox and it happened a few years ago. Chemicals aren't going anywhere, at least for now. A search will yield a lot of info on what happened with the case. Many people thought It was going to be the end of pyro and for a while It didn't look good. But in the end It only applies to firefox. Others are now cautious for a good reason but after you establish yourself you can get most anything. It is probably easier to get chems now than then. And it wasnt the ATF (actually BATFE) it was the CPSC that took them to court. In the end I think it was shown they had sold basically M80 kits and got themselves in trouble. Which is why no one will sell oxidizer, aluminum, and tubes in the same order. Edit: after reading this it came across as harsh. Need to not post when I'm in pain... ddewees Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 They're good people though, and I try to get as much stuff from them as I can. Funny (not really) thing is, you're only allowed to get one pound (total) of any of those items on the restricted list. So without an FEL, you can't even make BP (both KNO3 & sulfur are on the list).
Maserface Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Gotta know someone with an FEL ddwees next time you go up give me a call, I can ride up with ya
