Sparx88
I'm about to go on an order spree to get stuff for stars and shells. I want primarily blue and red stars so I want to switch out of BP based stars and go knoI4, black copper oxide, stron nitrate. But I see that I need a chlorine donor to intensify the color. So, would it be Parlon, PVC, or can dried bleach (sodium hypochlorite powder) work? I would think Parlon would be best due to the binder effects and no need for dextrin anymore(use of acetone). Carbon796
Bleach is not going to work ! You should pick out a few formulas that you are interested in trying, and then purchase the appropriate chemicals for them. That being said, Parlon is probably the most commonly called for chlorine donor.
schroedinger
Dried bleach won`t work for several reasons.1. There is no sodium hypochlorite powder. It turn into sodium chlorate and chloride2. As sodium is present, you get yellow color3. Normal bleach contains just 3% hypochlorite, so it would be quite interesting So go for Parlon or PVC (better Parlon)

Sparx88
lol Yep another one solved. I know, "bleach" lol, had to ask Thought it might be viable. Ok then, Parlon it is. Preciate the help yall.
psyco_1322
Just order the parlon. You can still use dextrin. Dextrin bound stars are going to be better looking than parlon since the parlon leaves an ashy tail. Another thing to note is that parlon bound stars tend to burn up significantly faster than dextrin bound ones.
WonderBoy
Another option to look into is Saran. What did you have in mind for the "dried bleach (sodium hypochlorite powder)"? Generally, sodium is avoided in most colours. WB

schroedinger
Well sounds ok to me. Specially if you think of the fact that you will need a max of 10% for most formulas, which means 1 pound is enough to make 5 kg of stars. And 5 kg of stars should make a lot of shells, i would assume that they make around 20-40 3" shells. Which is quite a lot.
