Newbosauras Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Hey guys, Soooo I might have violated the number 1 rule of any good pyro and made something that wasn't used pretty much immediately. I found about 3/4 of a pound of thermite I made about 2-3 years ago in my basement. It's in a sealed glass jar (screw on metal top), and given what I know about thermite's stability and the decay of Red Iron Oxide and Ground Aluminum I don't think that it should be particularly unstable or dangerous but I'd really like to get a little confirmation from a community that's probably a bit more familiar with this than I currently am. Thanks a ton,Newbosauras
FlaMtnBkr Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 It should be fine. Iron oxide should be about the most stable oxidizer around. However, I wouldn't get in the practice of storing or mixing chems in glass. That is a pretty big no-no in pyro.
ollie1016 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 It'll be fine! As FlaMtnBkr said, storing compositions in glass containers isn't good practice. This type of thermite is probably fine being stored in a glass jar, but just for the future!
