Wolverine Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 I'm working on some shells to put up this New Years eve and my budget for supplies is already gone, so I'm going to have to make stars in compositions that include only the most basic ingredients id est KNO3, Sulfur, Pine Char, and Meal Powder... and I do have a little sodium benzoate but I don't think that will be very helpful. I already have 2 tested comps that work well and will be used. However I was hoping that some of you might have some other effects that can be achieved with just the bare bones and would like to ask if you'd mind sharing your ideas and thoughts on the matter. The shells will be 2" and 3" altho' I might try my first 4" as well, it depends if I feel ready for it on shell pasting day.The comps I'm already using are:White #9 (from rec. pyrotechnics)KNO3 --- 42S ----------18Meal ------18Dex---------5 And a fire-dust (it's a Shimizu comp. I believe)KNO3-------35S-------------12Pine Char.-45Dex----------8(Also quick thank you to the guys in chat who warned me that the later comp will have a long burn and encouraged me to keep these stars small to accommodate the fact. and also for informing me that to better make those stars the KNO3 should be soaked into the char)
Mortartube Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 You can also make gold hummers for a bit of variety with BP.
Wolverine Posted December 23, 2013 Author Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) Yeah I was thinking about that. I don't have any Aluminum but I guess a few more bucks on the credit card won't kill me. Edit: Yup, I ordered the Aluminum... think I'm going to go w/ N1 I think it looks better. Edited December 23, 2013 by Wolverine
CannonBall Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 You can also make some TT stars, or crossettes if you have the tooling.
