bob Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Anybody know of chemical stores in Tucson Arizona, or in that area? I would be getting potassium nitrate from them.Thanks.
Jonathan Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 I don't think there are any retail stores in the U.S. that sell KNO3 except possibly for farm supply or hardware stores that sell something like Grant's Stump Remover. I live in Connecticut and never have found KNO3 in any retail store in any form. On the other hand, I've bought lots of it online at modest prices.
TheEskimo Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 You can try farm supply stores nearby to see if they have bags of KNO3 sold as fertilizer. Look for bags with these numbers: (13-0-45)My place of choice to get KNO3 if you don't have a farm store nearby is seattle pottery supply. They also sell other useful chemicals like paraffin wax, various metal oxides, etc. Reasonably cheap too if you buy in 100 pound lots.http://www.seattlepotterysupply.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=sps_ecat&Product_Code=72345&Category_Code=RMPMR
bob Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 Thanks for your replies everyone, I'm currently checking out a few stores, including that pottery store. bob
bob Posted December 18, 2013 Author Posted December 18, 2013 I just ordered the 50lb bag from the pottery store, shipping was $75 so not to bad. So thanks again for your help, especially TheEskimo.bob
bob Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 The potasium nitrate arrived on the 24th of December, so it took 9 days to come, which is not bad. When I picked it up I had to pay about 30 dollars for brokerage fees and taxes, so it cost about $170 total. It was packaged nicely and I am quite happy with it. bob

bob Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 It was 64 dollars for the KN03 its self so that is about the same price as the stuff you got, only difference is how far we had to ship it.bob
asdercks Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 $64 not a bad price, do you know what brand is the kno3 that you bought?
Jwdrummer5 Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 I can get champion brand potassium nitrate at a local farm store for ~$50 for 50 lbs. last time i bought it anyway, about 2 yrs ago, still using it slowly. works great for me.
bob Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 (edited) Here is a picture of the bag.bob Edited January 24, 2014 by bob
asdercks Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 looks like a good kno3, I'll ask for a quotation to see if its woth buying it, thanks for posting the picture.
bob Posted January 25, 2014 Author Posted January 25, 2014 Hope it works out for you. They were quite good with my order and replied to emails quite quickly. One of the things I like about this KN03 is that it is about the same mesh size as table salt, infact I think it is a little finer. Being as it is quite fine it only takes ten minutes to bring two kilograms down to airfloat in my 6.7 liter ball mill, which is very convenient, infact I ground all of it up this afternoon.bob 2
