Any reason I shouldnt do this

I want to try some comps with a mix of klco4 and kn03, would there be any reason not to ball mill them together?

Thanks,

Which comps? unless you need large amounts id just screen the milled nitrate in with the perc before use. I also wanted to know, incase one lends itself as fuel.

50% kp 20% kn03 20%mgal 10% resin. Testing it in rockets.

I wouldn't mill 70% oxidiser with 20% mgAl. It's basically a flashpowder. A bit light on metal I grant you, but near enough to concern me.

As long as they're both pure, there shouldn't be any harm in milling them together. I'd just make sure to have a separate drum and media for it, so as to not contaminate it with any fuels or contaminate any future BP production. Perchlorate and sulfur in particular is something to avoid.

just milling the oxidizers, not the fuels. :)

Sorry, my mistake. I see no reason no to, though personally I would do them separately as if you mill it, then leave it for some reason, the KNO3 will just clump into lumps again.

thanks for the responses guys!

Don't forget to share your results with that fuel too. :)

I found that nitrate mixed with perc stays reasonably free flowing, I was worried it would clump before I mixed the fuel but is nicer to work with than pure kclo4. it will settle but not clump enough to cause frustration... Milled together or Large batches may differ.

Thanks all, this will help with my non milled bp/kp break charge tests.

And yes please share the result with your fuel.

Got it made, riced it with 3% nc and it burns pretty quick, nice purple. I should note that the resin specd is Vinsol, not phenolic. I won't be able to launch it in rocket form for now but hopefully when the snow flies I'll be able to ease the worry of starting the gem state on fire.

I ended up just using some fine kn03 I had, had to screen it plenty to get the clumps out. That's normal
