gghff Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 (edited) Would I have any problems using 30 sec a foot fuse (total 45 seconds for a 18 inch length) lifting shells vs a 10 sec a foot fuse (total 15 seconds for a 18 inch length) other than the time waiting for the shell to lift? I am using hdpe mortars so the tube would not burn from the longer time to lift. The fuse goes to the lift cup, around the shell up the mortar tube. Gregory Edited December 2, 2013 by gghff
LambentPyro Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The only fuse I see capable of being used for lift is blackmatch or that super fast paper fuse (.4 s/ft). Otherwise, you're putting way too much risk into something that could be easy as making Black Powder. Take it safe and smart.
Arthur Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 It will work but someone WILL be tempted to go see if it's still burning in the 45 seconds and may get hit by a rising shell. 3 - 5 seconds is enough to walk away from -what's wrong with 18"" of quickmatch with 5 seconds of visco in the end?
schroedinger Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Fuse is fuse, but 45 seconds are long, like said above, many people will be tempted to go and check. I know quite some people which tempted to check on consumer cakes after 5 seconds. If only you are able to go close to the mortar it will be fine. But would be better to take some faster fuse. Maybe look for the yellow type fuse which burns at 3-4 seconds per foot
ChloRure Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I maińy use 2sec pink visco fuse and it is already long if you ever plan to setup a show
