Swede
If you have access to a metal-cutting bandsaw, then yes, the sawzall is a poor second choice. http://www.5bears.com/firew/bsaw02.jpg Being able to slice through a bundle of stainless in a few seconds is a luxury. But a sawzall is still better than a hacksaw, IMO. Set up the vise so that the guard rides against the edge of the vise, and I think the cuts will be clean. Ventsi
Wohooo! Just got my plates a few days ago and just got to try them.http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m100/asota_2006/P1080738.jpg Here's the 1/2 one next half a kilo of D1 glitter.http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m100/asota_2006/P1080736.jpg

But VERY cool :{) I'd be interested in a pict or two. Those were the days.I'll post some pics as soon as I'm sober again . I'm just retuning from a birth day party and I'm surprised I still can type English that looks like it's according to the spelling rules. The previous owner screwed up pretty badly, putting all polarized components like electrolytic capacitors and diodes the wrong way around, so I only got the left channel working today. He (or she, although unlikely) had better tried a smoke machine kit .As far as the electric bill, it's only a 12AX7 and two EL84's, so that would be about 30 watts I guess. Yes it is inefficient, but too cool to let gather dust. Transistors are just some black blobs on sticks, while tubes somehow have way more attraction. A 2x 50 watt class A will follow some day if I'm done with my study and have enough money for it. I already made half the schematics and layout (point to point), but the transformers and tubes needed are quite expensive.
NightHawkInLight
Ventsi, those are beautiful! I'm thinking I might make one or two of those. I have been going back and forth the last few weeks from a place called the Geek Group. They have an incredible machine shop they let anyone come in and use for free. Google them for some more info. I should make a post here about them once I shoot a bit more video.
50AE
Damn, it's very cold here, around 5 degrees F. The skin of my hands has become dry and red, because I was outside without gloves for 20 minutes. Ventsi, I envy you. They look very cool, oh. I'll plan a star plate for my next projects. Wait till you pay the electric bill ;{) Class A is clean, but inefficient as all get-out. But VERY cool :{) I'd be interested in a pict or two. Those were the days. The next week I'm getting two AB amps with 2x150W. They are made from a guy who works at an audio devices factory. In exchange, I paid him his MMO anodes. Now I'm trying to build the passive filters, but I can't find the speakers documentations
rocket
I’ve got a star plate in the makings now, got all the holes drilled in the plates and up sized the female plate just a hair over the size of the pins so I have a little play. I’ve been using a drill press to drill all the holes and it worked pretty well though the real test will be when I start to glue the pins in place. Just need to go and get some more Al rod to finish the pins then its time to glue it all together. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k300/ber0006/P1120549.jpg Edited January 24, 2010 by rocket

50AE
For the first time in my life, I fell in love... and it's driving me insane, it's like tearing me appart. I feel no hunger, I don't sleep much, I'm always thinking about the girl, her face. I lost interest in everyting else, even pyro. I don't care about nothing else now. The feeling... it's unbelievable. The irony is, I mocked at my feelings before this fact. I was thinking that it's almost impossible to find such a nice girl, that they were all lacking intelligence and emotion. I was seeing many beautiful girls, but there was something missing in them. But this girl is like a magnet to me. Her smile especially! When she smiles, it's so beautiful, like a bright light, a sunrise. She's very special, not like the other girls. The good thing is that she lives in the same building I do. She's a student and I think her main hobby is singing in a choir, as I saw her in facebook. TheEskimo
Mmmm...I've felt that way about 2 girls. Both usually have BFs. They go out with them for about 6 months, and find out that they are total creepers, and break up. I would like to make a move, but I feel that they might want time to not be with someone, and give them time. By the time I can work up my courage to say something, they've got someone else. Ah, the trials and tribulations of HS. I love it

50AE
Thank you for supporting me guys! She is very cute and she smiles and laughs even at the tiny sence of humor. But the main problem is: I can't stop her to chat. She stays much at home at sundays. When she goes out and in, she walks so fast! When I'm greeting her with a "Hello!", she has almost reached the elevators. She rarely seems to go outside in the neighbourhood with some friends, I've never seen her doing this. The good thing is - she has a facebook account. Finally I created myself one, for her. I hope she adds me as a friend, so we can have a chat.
Twotails
Worked out the formulas for the silicone AP(and KP) blues. The AP stars are rubbery(and bounce to my dismay)>.< but burn a nice shade of blue, and have a very quiet flame. The KP based one's (are also rubbery, as expected) but burn with an adiable "Hiss", and are a lighter shade of blue, like sky/baby blue. Both seem to have promise, and look good, I may try to implement a portion of them into a sort of Matrix comet-type thing.

What are you going to use to glue the pins? Epoxy? If so, you might want to undercut or cross-drill the pins so you get some mechanical lockup, and obviously degrease thoroughly. Well done! Oh yeah 50AE, don't screw it up dude.
FrankRizzo
One of the Passfire fellows who makes pyro tools mentioned yesterday that ~0.010" of difference between the pin and hole plate diameters is about the ideal clearance. You don't want the pins to fit too tightly as they're apt to bind when dirty.
Ventsi
WooHoo! Just made 150' of Black Match and a few 3" hemispheres, mixed up 600g of BP, milled a third of it, primed my stars and I'm starting on the casings for 2x 3 break 3" shells. And my CuSO4 crystal is 1.5" long and a perfect blocky shape.
Twotails
I might have Some Lamp black for sale in the coming mounths. Possably $2-5 plus shipping. Dependent on how much is made. Just made Two sourdough starters, and gonna make another tommorrow. 1st. Regular Starter, Flour(2 cups) and water(just enough to get it to thick pancake batter consistancy), let it ferment for 5 days, then feed it 1/2c(4oz) flour to 1/2c(4oz) water per day, or 1c(8oz) flour 1c(8oz) water per week if kept in the refrigerator. For a quicker(Not traditional starter) add 1/4oz bakers yeast to the starter when you first make it, pluse a pinch of white sugar.(mix yeast with water and sugar first) 2nd. Honey starter (same as above) Flour(2 cups) and water(just enough to get it to thick pancake batter consistancy) and 2 Tbsp Honey, and 1/4oz bakers(bread) yeast, let it ferment for 5 days, then feed it 1/2c(4oz) flour to 1/2c(4oz) water per day, or 1c(8oz) flour 1c(8oz) water per week if kept in the refrigerator. For a traditional starter don't add the 1/4oz bakers yeast to the starter when you first make it.(Yeast should be mixed with the Honey and water before being added to the flour) 3ed. Apple starter(Two ways) Grated Apple. Grate 100g apple( about 1 apple with skin) add Flour(2 cups) and water(just enough to get it to thick pancake batter consistancy), let it ferment for 2 days, then feed it 1/2c(4oz) flour to 1/2c(4oz) water per day, or 1c(8oz) flour 1c(8oz) water per week if kept in the refrigerator. For a quicker(Not traditional starter) add 1/4oz bakers yeast to the starter when you first make it, pluse a pinch of white sugar. Apple juice/Fermented apple juice(Hard cider) (If made with apple juice it should be freshly made from apples, not from a jar/can, and you will need 1/4oz bakers yeast)take your fermented juice(2cups) and add just enough flour to make a thick batter, and ferment for atleast 2 hours, or for better flavour longer. Feed every day with 1/2c flour 1/2 cup water, or 1c flour 1c water per week in refrigerator. There may be a black liquid on top of the starter during fermentation. this is ok, you can stir it into the starter, or discard the liquid, it containens some yeasts and alcohol. you could take this liquid and start a new starter with it, or take part of the starter and likewise. One starter i have in my frige is 10 years old(started in 2000 by a class at my school), and is possably the best starter i have ever cooked with. Starter can be frozen, and turned dorment, then thawed on the counter to bring it back to life.
TheEskimo
Hehehe Has anyone seen "The Gods Must Be Crazy"? Very funny movie, and some nice social commentary. Made me crack up so much.
