Out the door for <$20....

It's great to have wholesale fertilizer hookups... Now only if I could get some NH4NO3... I wish it wasn't labeled as a "bomb"-making substance... I really only want it for making some BaNO3 and SrNO3 from Carbonates.

I have the same stuff, works great. A word of advice, put it in a 5 gallon bucket. Leaving it in the open for long periods of time will render it a 55lb brick.

That really depends on climate. Mine has been exposed to air for years now and it is still a free flowing powder. Nonetheless closed bucket is the best way to store it. No one wants to kick over the bag and dump half of it on the floor inadvertently.

I'm actually slowly milling it little by little into a 5 gallon bucket as we speak :)

I wish I had a bunch more 5 gallon buckets to make screens with though... I need about 10... Going over to my friends house today, and his dad does dry-wall, so I should get a hook up :D

I'm also in the works of distilling some nitric... I melted some glass into a condenser-like shake, but I still need a Florence\distilling flask, and some teflon compound (is there such a thing?) to make some joint seals.

Finally got my ball mill going. Needed a new drum and I made it. The PVC one, not sure what its called.

Al is quite resistant to nitric. Means you can connect glass equipment with multiple wraps of Alu foil, held in place by adhesive tape.

Looks ghetto but worked for my many batches of RDX-grade nitric, density 1.54 (from the freezer). But that's past, good old times!

This assembly has been disassembled, sniff sniff, but at least I got the 1 liter NS29 ground-joint RBF back that was permanently fixed to a broken 400mm Liebig. The other end of which happens to be NS29 too, so my next Henry condensation can be done on a mole scale.

Would never have thought I would ever deliberately *reduce* a nitro group without oxidizing a carbon or hydrogen of the same molecule in the process though .... (I kept the foil) :P

Hope I don't get spanked, but I did not discuss *HE* manufacture, did I?

Well I don't know if this is good news or bad news but in the end it is probably good news. I got a letter in the mail this week from an appraisal company. The "Notice Of Assessment" for my property raised the value of my home $90K in 1 YEAR! So now I'm thinking of moving. The good part is looking at A LOT more land-I think we could all appreciate that in light of recent news especially. The bad news is my whole estate is now under lock down with realtors and strangers coming in. I expect high losses in my aquarium when it comes time to move it and that will really, really, really suck. So I guess it is time to shit or get off the pot if the pyro is gonna get serious!

Gone fishing! (edit)

Shaga: for all intents and purposes, yes.

frogy: You scare me.

Boomer: Al is kind of strange in regards to nitric... pure - 99.9%+ aluminum is very resistant to conc nitric (68%+). BUT to lower conc... not so much. It depends on the alloy, as well. (Al foil is not pure Al, it is an alloy, btw). I wouldn't risk using it in a nitric still. Especially since the corrosive effect on aluminum is greatly increased with more heat.

I did not say it is perfect, but multiple layers worked through several distillations. The inner layers were partly gone after unwrapping, but keep in mind you cannot rinse the setup completely, mine soaked in acid for some 8 years.

About the alloy, no idea. I know that cooking pot Al is 99,9% pure, but foil?

Against the odds I’ve made my first few colour comps, so far I’ve made green, red and a very washed out blue. The green was pretty lime but the red was great. All the comps used chlorates and basic colouring salts and no chlorine donors.

I scored a nice chunk of magnesium today - for $2.50. It feels about 5 lbs. Plus, the guy said he had more, so I may slice it up and sell it for making magnalium. Since I already have a goodly stockpile of Mg.

Nice. I've been busting my butt trying to find some so I can get a nice stock built up. So far all that I have found is a scrap yard who occasionally gets tank parts scrap from a local military base. He had 3-4 15lb pieces when I called and then when he double checked they were gone <_< .

Ok, this will sound a little random but what do you call that facial expression? The one where you pucker up one side of your mouth. Is it a smirk? Or is it something else?

Long story short I spent three years outside the states and my English has gone to hell.

I suppose I use it as : Irritatingly disappointed. Its not to the point of being pissed off, angry, or upset but more than just being disappointed about a roadblock popping up.

I get the emotion it conveys, but I was wondering what that expression was called.

I'm at the same time startled and happy because, I just found out that to get into Oxford Aviation Traning school in the UK, all I needed was GCSE's, of whitch I pass the equivalent here in France next year ( When I will be 15), But since I am too young to get into OAT, I will continue my scolar ship, until preuniversity levels, get my scientific exams, and then join...

I got a call yesterday from a guy who I never heard of before. He's from out of state and he's opening a new shop here, and he heard about me and called and asked me to be in on the start-up team. I lost my regular gig last October when my old employer folded and I've been working a suck-ass job ever since, and this might be my chance to get back to making some money and doing something that doesn't suck. He's flying in on Wednesday to talk to me. (fingers crossed)

He was a professional, er, escort. I heard he did bachelorette parties on the side, too.

Hehe, I've got a buddy that operates one of those services. He went from worker, to driver, to coordinator and now he's looking to get out.

He's cool when he's not trying to recruit me.

That's the sort of thing I'd prefer a flat-out lie about LOL :P
