anyone thought of immigrating to China?

I know this sounds stupid as everyone probably thinks, who wants to be a subject of the Glorious People's Chairman Maozhedung, but it seems China lacks a lot of the crap/inflexible rules that often plague US based businesses/people...

I have a friend who just came back from China and he showed me pictures of chemical shops, that sells just about everything Skylighter has (and more, chems like HCB are available for example) as well as everything you need to build fireworks, to just about anyone. Everyone knows in America such suppliers always gets into all kinds of trouble and as a result people and suppliers are often cautious, while it doesn't even look like Chinese people are that concerned about some Uhugir Islamist buying chems and blowing up some government offices. And because everything is made in China it just seems the market is ripe for getting the stuff you need to start your own business, perhaps servicing the needs of the Chinese people rather than be concerned with exports.

So in light of this has anyone thought of actually immigrating to China? I thought of this a few times because China is vast, so there's plenty of places to go rather than being stuck on some small island. It's not so hard for me because China isn't so hostile towards a Taiwanese wanting to "defect" back to the motherland but you know, would it be a better idea to consider vs. immigrating to other western countries such as the UK?

Paradox. Enterprise is less constrained (freer) in a Communist country.

Immigrating to America is much easier since the borders are so porous. But disposing of waste is much more regulated there (in the US) than in China, which increases business expense.

TL--(It's funny that you refer to yourself as Taiwanese, as my friends from the Republic of China call themselves Chinese. Referring to the People's Republic of China as the motherland is also unusual for a Chinese islander. I suppose you're speaking from Mainland China's perspective, not yours).

Immigrating to America illegally is easier, but legally it is not. People wait decades to immigrate to America legally and there are elaborate checks and stuff that makes the process even harder. Furthermore you need to have very rare skills, or be really rich in order to get a shot at it, which is why you get all these Middle Easterners that comes in because they look really attractive on paper.

Business expense is higher in America because you got high taxes, lots of rules and regulations, etc.

Sure, but if it's so difficult, why bother going the legal route. From what I hear from my US friends: 1) law enforcement won't arrest or detain you on suspicion of being illegal because it's considered discriminatory or some such, 2) if you remain in the US illegally long enough you are likely to receive amnesty because of the political trend, 3) As an illegal you have full access to free health care and other government services, 4) you can bring lawsuits and win awards from citizens of the US and 5) you don't have to pay the outrageous European taxes--in fact, you don't pay taxes at all. If only half of this is true, as easy as it is to slide across the vast borders, there is great incentive to go to that generous country. Problem is, I feel compelled to follow international laws. Darn!

When the US Federal Government defaults on the national debt most US Citizens will wish they were in China.

What would a default do to the US economy? It seems with the exponential growth on their national debt it is a matter of time that they won't even be able to pay the interest on tax revenue alone.

Thing is, illegal immigration with Mexicans are easy because of the rather porous border but for everyone else, it isn't that easy because getting a tourist visa is nearly as hard as an immigration visa, and also you can be denied entry to the US if you do not need a visa (or even if you have a visa) on a technicality if the agent is having a bad day. Also I really have no desire to live in the US as an illegal alien.

Why should they?

Using Terrorism as a measure to achieve political goals does not pay off under most circumstances anyway. China seems to be a very stable state and cannot be hurt by it anyway. If some repressed minority resorts to terrorism, this will drive the chinese people into the arms of the party even more, actually stabilizing the system.

I think all this national debt issue is big BS, the same as here in europa.

The americans are one of the richest nations in the word. The wealth is not well distributed, that's all.

I don't know the exact numbers, but I can imagine the state is mostly in debt to it's own millionairs.

The only problem is when you tell them, they knee-jerk react by calling you a "socialist" and troublemaker.

So America seems to the the only country that uses terrorism to justify restricting materials and freedom from the average people?

Mabuse00, in your testament ;) above you say that the national debt (European debt) is BS. Do you mean that there is no significant debt. Or that the assets of the country (or EU) swamp out any concerns for the staggering debt? In the 1930's national debt got so high for a beloved European country, and currency was printed so fast, that you had to have a wheelbarrow to transport the money to buy a loaf of bread, because of inflation.

And I don't worry about being called a troublemaker. It fits.

I feel compelled to jump into this discussion.

I you want to buy fireworks chems and supplies in the U.S., no problem. The stuff that's available legally by mail or UPS or FEDEX is amazing. There are many suppliers and often some good internet deals.

Setting off homemade rockets does bring various laws into play. Without going into details, there are ways to finesse the regulations. The U.S. is a large country, with many places lightly populated.

Yes, for business owners, there are many rules and regulations in the U.S. I make my living as a (tax) lawyer and professionally only have to comply with Bar rules and regs. Taxes for me are onerous. I don't begrudge paying taxes, but I do begrudge the politicians who waste my tax dollars.

All in all, I believe the U.S. is good place to live if one knows how to make one's own way.

Living in the US is not an option for the OP. It is also not too hard to pursue this hobby legally in the US either. With events like the PGI you don't need a license to be legal if you do everything on site.

There are times I wish I had moved away from Indiana when I had a chance, but never have I wanted to live in a foriegn country permanently.
