I was looking into what I would have to do to become a professional pyrotechnician when I become of legal age, so I tried doing some research with google a few times about what the requirements are to become pyrotechnician. I love in canada and I've never totally had a good understanding of the canadian laws, I only expect they're probably the same as the laws in the united states, although probably a little more strict, yet if I were a professional licensed pyrotechnician, the laws would be different again.

Anyways, what I'm seeking, is advice, and I'm wondering if anyone here has any idea where I could start in finding out the rules and regulations in Canada and such, and what I should do first if I want to become a professional pyrotechnician.

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: I'm sorry mod's, this is probably a hassal, but I somehow overlooked the fact that "general" ISN'T just everything, and that it's got a header above it stating that it's for spud guns and cannons etc. Sorry about that.

I don't know the Canadian laws either. You could probably call the provincial fire chief and ask what licensing is needed to shoot a fireworks show where you are. Or maybe even ask your local gov. office. They should know what licensing and paperwork you need specifically. Might want to try calling a handful of display companies as well.

I know of one canadian company, mystical distributing, which sells stuff to licensed pyrotechnicians only, so there are company's that sell the stuff which you'd need, so there's a start. Thanks for the info too.

I'll take care of moving it.

I was talking with the guy who owns Canadian Chemical something or another. Apparantly there are tests and formal government training classes to be licenced. At least as far as shooting I believe. He may have said something about further tests for manufacture and such.

do you mean www.ccdco.ca ?

Canadian Chemical Distributing. I emailed him about a week or two ago about an order actually, I was curious to how his service was, a lot of people said he's busy often so takes a while to reply, I havn't received a reply yet.

I've found one (company?) that gives courses in becoming an apprentice, you go for a one day class I believe, then after that, you're qualified to work as an apprentice, but you have to find your own pyro's to apprentice under, and you have to fire at least 3 shows in 5 years or something? seems pretty basic.

Thats the site. The apprentice thing sounds familiar. Might be worth looking into. I believe he said this was a government program.
