leedrill
now i have been doing a bit of reading on the winokur comps and as im sure most do i love the look of the no. 20 and 39 .i have been inspired by {viking pyrotechnics} last post about his 1lb motor to start using these as delay comps .my questions arewinokur 20 is stated to use 200mesh mgal i only have 325mesh {am still on the hunt for 200mesh if anyone can supply to me in aus } what would the comp look like with the 325mesh has anyone subbed the 200mesh for it id imagine the tails from comets and alike would be not as longer lasting which is obviously not a desired effect if using as a tail for a motor also has anyone subbed the 200mesh in winokur 20 for 100mesh of courser how long are the delays in flashes altered by doing this i figure it might be what im looking for or will the courser meshes ruin the effect of no.20 and as for winokur 39 i have some 325-400mesh al in flake and atomised has anyone got any experienced between using the flake in the no. 39 and i also have some 200mesh atomised id love to know if this would do the same as asked about no.20 will using a courser mesh al ruin the effect of no.39 or give me a longer lasting tail am hoping some one on the forum has experimented with these comps and is able to share their knowledge thanks
mabuse00
inspired by {viking pyrotechnics} last post about his 1lb motor to start using these as delay compsI liked that one too. Note that this was a nozzleless motor, I don't think it would work as nice with a nozzle. I tried some glitters in nozzled motors and I had no or very meagre glitter effect, most of the slag just stayed in the tube... and as for winokur 39 i have some 325-400mesh al in flake and atomised has anyone got any experienced between using the flake in the no. 39Not in W39 but in N1, I can imagine this behaves similar. 325mesh "bright" flake gave a very short tail with little glitter (and the fat cover makes it a pita to bind/pump the stars anyway) - not recommended. I also found that using atomized alumium that is much larger that 200 mesh does not give a longer tail or larger delay, but rather a very short tail with no glitter at all (tested in N1 too). Large flake "Firefly" aluminium would be interesting to try, but I don't have that. Imho 325mesh atomised is your best bet. Generally it seems that longer tails / longer delays are rather caused by the retarding ingredients, carbonates, bicarbonates, oxalates ect. than the by the particle size of the metal. So if you want longer delays playing with the amount of these might also be interesting.
