I am wanting to know if Thumblers Tumblers are suitable for ballmilling pyro comps? I do realise the motor being mounted so close to the drum might be a problem. I was looking at the 15 lb one.

Also, I had a thought about the media for a large mill. Would golf balls work?

It would be too easy. I have several buckets of range balls. Just a thought.

The 15lb drum works for me. I missed your other post until today.

I use that drum with a different motor and box. I know of a few who use that mill as it is. As for the media, golf balls won't work. They are light and on the large size. Lead balls are considred the safest. That jar will take 35# of 1/2" lead balls. Edited by nater

Thanks Nater. I knew they would be on the lite side. I remember reading thet the larger the drum, the larger the media should be.

I was wondering about static discharge from the golf balls too. The thought was to use them to mill charcoal. It's fairly soft.

I think if I get a large mill I will make media from rigid copper tubing filled with lead. Can you give me the details on your mill?

Can the drum be purchased seperatly? Sorry for the misspellings, I am using Chrome and can't seem to find a spell checker.

Dodad,

Thumblers drum is $140 complete with rubber liner from Tru-Square Metal Products. They sometimes show up on Ebay.

OK, well the link I supplied has the whole thing for less than $200.00

Not a bad deal then.

Yup, I saw that. Not a bad price at all for the complete unit.

My mill is the one detailed on Ned Gorski's site, www.fireworking.com. You can subscribe there to see the details. In fact, the mill cabinet is the one the single jar one he built while writing the instructions. He made me an offer I could not turn down.

Midwayusa.com has the Thumbler drum for $99.00

The complete tumbler is $179.00

I think I will order this and if need be I will build a better mill drive. But this will get me started.

wow...good price on the drum. I paid $75 a few years ago for one so $99 is about right if adjusted for inflation. Think my C&R license is still on file with them and perhaps I can save even more. I need another drum for continuous production.

Thanks for the info and link Dodad.

Just ordered a 15lb drum from Midway. Use NRA5013 promo code for $10 off the price good until 9/30/2013. Knocks it down to $89.99 + shipping. Cheapest I've found for a new drum.
