asdercks Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Hi guys newby here, I was wondering if a 2 oz. black powder rocket is powerfull enough to lift small shells from 1.5" up to 2" . so far I have only made 1/4" rockets with 7/8" plastic shell headings, but I am trying to move to bigger rockets that can carry a bigger payload 1
Zerohour Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Hello asdercks. According to Wolter, a 2 oz black powder cored rocket with a typical 60-30-10 fuel has an upper payload weight lifting capability of 30 grams. If you are able to use a hotter fuel you may be able to lift heavier payloads, but I have no personal experience with this size rocket. I guess it would depend what the shell consists of. A report shell with air space would weigh significantly less than a shell full of stars and burst.
Bobosan Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 (edited) This is a 75-15-10 cored with a 1 inch ball BP header. Header weight 26g. With a good hot BP, a larger and heavier payload is do-able. http://youtu.be/p8k4ceggVjc Edited September 23, 2013 by Bobosan 1

Zerohour Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Ok here they are. Sorry for the shitty quality; it's an underwater camera. If there are any pics you would like to see in better quality let me know. I will try. 1
Zerohour Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 As you can see, towards the end I figured out how to take better pictures. Like I said, don't hesitate to ask for a better quality of any particular photo because I think I've got it figured out.
Bobosan Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Zerohour, Thank you for taking the time and effort to post these. Very good basic rocketry information contained in those pages.
asdercks Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Hey zerohour thanks for sharing those pictures, all that info will definitely help
