hello guys,

I have got two different mesh magnelium 80 mesh and 100 mesh and i gotta use magnelium for strobe stars and formula for strobe says to use magnelium of 80-100 mesh(magnelium in between 80 to 100 mesh).

so my question is how do I mix (what are the proportions of 80 mesh and 100 mesh) 80 mesh MgAl and 100mesh MgAl to get 80-100 mesh MgAl.

Hi there,

I have got two different mesh magnelium 80 mesh and 100 mesh

Magnalium is usually specified to be within certein mesh values, or smaller as xy mesh.

You wont have only 80 or 100 in there but rather a spectrum of different sizes.

Ask your dealer what exactly you bought.

If it's specified as "passing 80mesh", rather use that stuff.

IMHO just try them both, make 10g or so batches with each one, put them in your star gun and see what they do. It's not that scientific. I'm sure 80 or 100 mesh will not make a big difference in strobe rate. The question is rather what you like better.

BTW it is called magnalium :)

I'd say the "80 mesh" will be 80-100 and the "100 mesh" will be 100-Airfloat, If they are from the same supplier.

I'll definitely second Mabuse's suggestion to try both.

Personally I have found 60-100 works excellently in Blesser's White Strobe, and -100 works excellently in the Spanish White Strobe formula. I'm sure that 60-100 and 80-100 are largely interchangeable.

52 Barium nitrate

26 Sulfur

14 Magnalium

4 Potassium nitrate

4 Dextrin

There is a PDF doing the rounds with this composition as well as many others and notes (all in Spanish). It was created by an obviously highly accomplished firework maker from Espania.

I believe there is a thread with a link to it on this forum. If you can't find it, chuck me a PM :)
