would it be possible to bind spider stars with parlon and acitone

my normal formula is

Potassium nitrate 53%

Air Float Charcoal 32%

Sulfur 7.5 %

Dextrin 7.5 %

could i just swap out the dextrin and use parlon at the same 7.5 % ?

iam working 7 days a week , just trying to save a few weeks drying time :)

Parlon is typically used as a chlorine donor as well as a binder, I don't know how well it would work or what kind of effect you would get using it, good or bad. If you're looking for a fast drying binder, I would look into either NC binding systems, or phenolic resin.

Workable, yes. Good idea, probably not. When I tried binding some with parlon, they did burn ok, but there was a considerable amount of glowing fall out. When you think about it, binding up charcoal that is barely being oxidized with rubber, doesn't even sound like it would be workable.

As mentioned parlon is chlorinated rubber and will most likely slow down the burn rate quite a bit. It is also mainly used to provide chlorine to the burn to help with colors which is not needed here.

I would try phenolic resin though you will probably have to increase the oxidizer. NC lacquer can probably be used but is more expensive and you have to deal with acetone vapors. It is somewhat oxygen balanced so you would probably still need to increase the oxidizer though not as much. Who knows which would be easier to get right now, NC or phenolic. I know a couple places to get phenolic, though NC should be easy to get, reports are shelves are still pretty bare if you plan on using smokeless powder. It seems like I'm forgetting another binding system so maybe I will think of it shortly.
