taiwanluthiers Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I didn't really concern myself so much with concentration because I just dissolved as much of the KCl as I can. The stuff I use comes with this red stuff so I had to somehow filter them out. After doing that the solution cools and the salt actually crystalizes out, but once it's in a cell the crystals will dissolve as the temperature goes up. As Chloride concentration decreases the extra salt will dissolve and the potassium chlorate will collect at the bottom of the cell.
Arthur Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Industrially Sodium Chloride is electrolysed to sodium chlorate in one cell, then the liquor is transferred to another cell with platinum electrodes to make the perchlorate. THEN the required ion is substituted for sodium, (Ba, K, NH4 etc. Domestically KCl may be an OK start point. Read also Swede's Blog "This will put your eye out"
MCtiaguinho Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 hi,yes you right about concentration and Arthur i ill read that blog as soon i get some free time so my potassium clorate cell will be like this: -a plastic body 3L - anode and cathode from stainless steel (for testing) a pc power supply 20A 5V concentration will be like taiwan says Temperature and pH will be like schroendinger said (i think can be the same for potassium clorate) for 4-5 days using water distilled water or normal? Then when the cells have some crystals i put in ice bath to precipitate more crystals then filter and wash with cold water Then for purification recrystalize and done? anything is missing? By the way my anode and cathode can be change to titanium and mmo (in potassium pechlorate topic they talk about a lot of new (for me) eletrodes so im a bit confused witch are better for potassium clorate) Thank You
schroedinger Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 This cell will last you maybe 1 to 2 hours, as you`re anode will go off wandering. Steel can`t be used as a anode, as they get oxidised. Suitable for chlorate in a cell of your dimensions are: MnO2PbO2MMOPt anodes. This cell should give you around 300g of chlorate after 4-5 Days with 2 times recrystalisation
MCtiaguinho Posted September 18, 2013 Author Posted September 18, 2013 hi,all hard to find guess i need to buy mmo :\ Thank you.
