DanishPyro Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Hi APC, So, I want to make some rising comets for some 2.5" and 3" shells, and I want it to be a simple comp with only KNO3, S, C and Ti flakes, but in what ratio should I make the composition? I will be mixing in dextrin and either pump or hand roll the comets. Also, what size would they need to be? Timefuse are 2.5 - 3 sec. Thanks!
FlaMtnBkr Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 For that size shell, a 1/2" cut star hot glued to the outside should work fine. If you decide you want more sparks just glue 2 on instead. You can use tiger tail or Chrysanthemum 6 or 8 and then add in +5 or 10 % metal. Just don't mill anything with metal in it and add it last. What size are your Ti flakes?
Mumbles Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 You should pump them. Be careful that the Ti doesn't harm your tooling though. Most charcoal streamers will happily accept metals to create sparks. I included a favorite of mine below. It's based on using coarse Al flitters, but Ti should work just fine too. Soft Silver: KNO3 - 50Sulfur - 15Charcoal (airfloat) - 10Charcoal (80 mesh) - 10Coarse Al flitters - 10Dextrin - 5 Screen together everything but metal 3x 20 mesh, and fold in the Al flitters until uniformly distributed.
