Updup Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 (edited) How the hell does pyrobin get classed as family unfriendly? I have no idea, but it wouldn't let amatuerpyro through eathier, I had to have dad allow it =/ and that's kinda a hassle. Thanks Dag, I'll be sure and try that out Edited September 28, 2010 by Updup
asilentbob Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Someone had uploaded a pic or 2 showing the pressed cores of rockets a while back... maybe 2 weeks?... Except they photoshopped it so instead of core holes they were a** holes. It appears they were removed. The filter could have been related to that...

Mabye, but it freaks out at really strange stuff... Allrecipes.com for example, WTF?
Peret Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 How the hell does pyrobin get classed as family unfriendly? There are people without a life, like Barracuda, who make their living out of block lists. Half the time the blocked sites have no relevance to the blocking reason. For example, I can't get on APC at work because the Barracuda web filter says it's "weapons related". However, it lets me visit Graf & Son and purchase bullets and BP. Go figure.
Mumbles Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 I was cruising around on youtube, and just saw Madonna covering Pantera. What has the world come to?
Seymour Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 I had some timefuse that got rained on a bit. To test that it was still good, I cut a piece off the end and lit it. I am making quite a big NYE show, and today I had 500g brocade and 500g tigertail stars out in the sun, getting a final roast in the summer rays before being loaded in to shells. The timefuse piece burned very well. indeed, it flew quite far... and landed on my stars. A kilo of very nice stars lost Not my day...

I was making stars today, spread the mix out on a bit of card to cut them (first batch mind you) and found it a bit too wet, so I left it in the shade for a few hours.. Went to work.. Watched TV.. Had a feed. now it's an almost solid lump I can barely push a ruler through. I think though I might have made enough of a 'cut' for them to snap off like bits of chocolate from a block once they dry a bit more.. Wait and see.
killforfood Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 It's a shame that my first post should be on the "Occasionally Depressed" thread but fireworks depress me. I've been a member of this forum for about a year and have read and learned a great deal. I've learned how to make my own charcoal at home. I've learned how to make (fast!) riced BP with readily available ingredients. I even learned how to build a nice ball mill that greatly improves the meal. I've read countless tutorials and watched hundreds of videos. Hey, that's great! So why should I be so depressed? I read all these posts about you guys having so much fun building and shooting your handy work and yet I haven't even crafted a lowly festival ball. Man that depresses me! Other then the BP, I haven't mixed a single comp. Man that depresses me. So, why not? Laws, Laws, Laws, why all the stinking laws? How is the average dude supposed to do any of this without falling afoul of the Law? Ned Gorski's strobe rocket video always puts a big stupid smile on my face. I would so like to make them except that making and storing whistle comp would be a real problem for me. How depressing. The ultimate would be a club with an approved magazine and an occasional grand master to keep me from losing fingers. Unfortunately, I don't believe anything like that exits in my neck of the woods. How depressing. Well that's my first post. Now I think I'll go light some candles. How depressing.
dagabu Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Where do you live? I can get you the email for one of several clubs that build and allow you to everything legally.
Peret Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 As Dag says, join a club! There are clubs everywhere in the US, if that's where you live, even in unfriendly states.
killforfood Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I live in the unfriendly state of Oregon. We've outlawed about every firework known to man. On the 4th of July firework stands are not even allowed to sell Roman Candles. My brothers help with one of the local Rodeo displays and they've encouraged me to join them. I suppose it would be good experience to learn something about safety, display setup and proper fusing but I would much rather build and shoot my own creations. I could have a lot of fun with just simple BP comps but could sure use some local encouragement. I took the state test that allows me to help on the big shows and mentioned that I would like to learn how to make fireworks. BIG mistake! Those guys had a real bad attitude towards homebuilders. They had a real bad name for ya-all, I just don't recall it at the moment. Something about your kind getting blown up and ruining it for all of us. Oh well, if you know of a club in northwest Oregon, I would appreciate it.
NightHawkInLight Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Give this a look over: http://www.pgi.org/links/clubs.aspx I would call or email the guy listed for the Oregon club and ask about some details. If they don't host any shoots, ask if he knows of any other options. If he doesn't, don't give up there. Do some calling around to other clubs even a few states over, they may host shoots within driving distance to you.
Peret Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) Actually, NHIL, the Oregon club doesn't look very promising - "Focusing on the legal aspects of pyrotechnics in Oregon". KFF, if you join one of the out of state groups, like PGI or WPA, you will have to travel a bit to their events but you get to make stuff with your own hands.Or you could always move to Nevada. killforfood Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 NightHawkInLight, Thanks for the link and of course all of you’re cool videos on youtube. http://www.oregonpyro.com/?bcsi-ac-793718C2F53A1F6B=1C344916000000027IRqZ29PFi52Jp03Pu/69LcBAAACAAAA43gGAIQDAAAbAAAAXxoAAA== Unfortunataly I think Peret is right. Daniel Tanners site is more about his past legal battles with Western Fireworks and the Oregon State Fire Mashall. Anybody that sells Tannerite can’t be that bad though! I’ll still give him a call and see what opportunities we have in Oregon.

killforfood Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 (edited) killforfood Where in Oregon do you live. I myself live in Oregon.BJVAbout 20 miles south of the Police state of Portland. Oh wait, maybe I should have said about 20 miles south of the town with the pedophile mayor. I need to edit this and add a little something to cheer things up. Just mentioning that mayor just gives me the creeps. How about a nice toasty fire in the woodstove cooking up a batch of charcoal. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v236/killforfood/Charcoal/IMG_8556.jpg There, that's better. I don't feel so depressed now. Edited January 3, 2011 by killforfood
Peret Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Interesting, that OFA web site, though a bit incomplete. The linked article in Oregon Conservative was interesting but I wonder, what's happened in the six and a half years since those hearings? Obviously no progress, otherwise we wouldn't be discussing it here. Y'know, don't mean to be sexist here, but it strikes me it's probably not a good idea to let women become Fire Marshals. Any woman who wants that job is probably on a mission.
DasSchaben Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 I took the state test that allows me to help on the big shows and mentioned that I would like to learn how to make fireworks. BIG mistake! Those guys had a real bad attitude towards homebuilders. They had a real bad name for ya-all, I just don't recall it at the moment. Something about your kind getting blown up and ruining it for all of us. I'm not from Oregon, but I hear you. I actually read the site, by the way, including the Corruption page. Wow. Hope you do find someone to work with. My New Years goals were to figure out Canada's archaic fireworks legislation and to find out why hobbyist groups seem to be nonexistent here. So, if I decide to pursue that, I should be prepared for pain.
Ventsi Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Hello fellas, its been a while since I've said anything.... I'm unhappy to say that I am slowly leaving the glorious hobby. Why? Mostly because of a lack of a place to construct fireworks, store fireworks and shoot fireworks. I shall leave out where all this took place beforehand. I am very sure that later on in life when I have a place to practise pyro which would not endanger others I will once again continue what I started but for now I must let it go. Also in case anyone remembers, my fingers healed pretty darn well from the belt sanding accident. PS, be on the lookout for a post in the Agora, as I will be unloading most of the stuff I have, most.

I feel what your saying. I'm also slowing down on everything as college is next year and I won't be around to "play". I also don't want to be caught and have my acceptance letters taken away
Cookieman Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Ventsi, I'm really sorry to hear that and hopefully one day you will come back doing what you love. This is a great hobby and I wish you the best of luck in whatever you pursue.
Mumbles Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 I feel what your saying. I'm also slowing down on everything as college is next year and I won't be around to "play". I also don't want to be caught and have my acceptance letters taken away I was in a similar situation after my accident, and can whole heartedly say that wont happen. I actually know of another similar situation where the ATF and FBI actually got involved, again without any recourse from the school.
killforfood Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 At the risk of cheering up the occasionally depressed thread, it seems I no longer have cause to be occasionally depressed. Dan Tanner returned my call yesterday and assured me that I am free to enjoy pyro in Oregon and that there are active members of OFA that meet for shoots on private property and that I'm welcome to join them.I told Dan that the membership link on his OFA website (oregonpyro.com) was broken and I was unable to join. He admitted that he's a little web illiterate and would get his guy on it right away. He also took the time to clear up a lot of my confusion on the legalities of it all.Yes, there are a lot of laws but most do not pertain to the limited personal activities that I would like to enjoy. He explained how to comply with the laws that do apply and it shouldn't be very difficult to stay legal as long as I follow his advice. It seems that he's already fought (and won) most of the battles to keep the Oregon State Fire Marshal at bay and as long as I don't do something stupid, they will pretty much leave me alone. Their next meet will be this spring and my next post will be in the happiness thread.
Peret Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Well! I'm always pleased to hear good news! I look forward to seeing you brag about lofting your first shell. But remember, if there are no pictures, it didn't happen!
killforfood Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 But remember, if there are no pictures, it didn't happen!Hey Peret, So are you saying that the Bear didn't really #2 in the woods?I'm confused, somebody needs to post pictures and clear this up.
