Occasional depression thread

Bonny,

Mine was completely healed within the week. It is amazing how fast the eyes heal. I worked in a big Union shop in Fridley making air handlers. We welded mild steel, AR, Galvanized (YUCK!) SST (300 & 400 series), aluminum (60 & 70 series).

The best was the 50 pass spray-arc fillet welds on 2" AP plate on cutter wheels for the recycling industry, we couldn't make them fast enough. The Chinese would sell them for a few hundred dollars and we would get a service call and find the impellers bent 90°. The AR steel will not bend, it will chip and shatter but will not bend.

I know galvanized sucked to weld, a stinky mess.I also did some work with AR plate- making carriages for paper mill track systems. The tops were 3/8" AR plate with mild steel 3/4 x 5 rails. We used 5/32 11018 rods before changing later to a hard wire to run on the MIG to speed the process and cut costs...personally I prefer stick welding.

MIG for me please! I still have a small wire feed system and weld whenever I can.

I've finally deleted the old apcforum.net address from my favorites. The old domain is not coming back, and I am sad. :(

..of course, we've all found our new home here so all is not lost.

Really, I tried my best to get it back. I had a back order in on it, and was first in line for it, but all that did for me (besides putting me out some money), was to put me in as the first bidder in an auction for it. I tried, but the other guy outbid me late in the auction, and I couldn't get it back. If you know who Tracey Parson is, we may be in luck.

When the optometrist said I would be getting a patch, I have to say, I was rather disappointed to discover it consisted not of a black pirate patch, but a lowly cotton ball taped awkwardly to my face.

Give me a holler next time. I'll hook you up with one of my black, leather patches. It goes well with virtually any ensemble

I wonder if was the cats from American Power Conversion? Trying to suck up all closely related domains.

Personally, I like the new address better.

I do like the new address...the other one didn't seem related at all if you didn't know what the APC bit stood for.....

I was planning to go to the drive-ins with my friend....I call him, and he says he'll check w/the parents and call back....I wait 3 hours...no call....I call his house--'Hi, is____ there?' 'No, he went over to his girlfriends house'......I'm say thanks and hang up....and I sat alone at home, watching the rain pour down...

dont worry most relationships which are like that rarely last long one can only last so long with out the friends they have relied upon for years

Looks like a real estate agent who does a bit of domain squatting on the side. Probably best to just let it go.

A Domain Squatter?!?! And a fucking Real Estate scumbag to boot?!?

I hope he catches some horrible venereal disease.

Anyone live in Oklahoma City, OK? Pay him/her a visit and make them an offer they can't refuse.

Ran out of rice crispie burst last night, just as I was trying to finish loading a 5" saturn shell. I had to use some of my corned lift powder to finish it, damn what a waste. I need to plan better when making a lot of 5's , as they really gobble up the materials compared to the 1" to 3" shells I'm used to making. On a happy note though I cut over 2lbs of slow gold stars last night...enough for quite a few shells.

Oh, DO share.

There was a posting of some chems for sale (all USPS shippable mind you) on PF and so I and another sent a bid over to Derek, he accepted, sent an email that they shipped but I only got two of the seven I bid on.

Hey, I understand mistakes, I forgot to send a ball mill jar to a customer for TWO MONTHS!! Stuff happens but I made good and sent free goodies and sincere apologies to him and I think he has taken my picture off his dart board now :)

After showing him that he failed to scroll down and read the entire PM, he got it right and told me he sent the remaining chems. I even sent him an extra buck to cover delivery confirmation, NADA!

No chems, little man with a big attitude, the other guy got one chem and was told that it would take another $26.00 to get the others due to shipping though that was not agreed to at the beginning.

There is a PF guy that lives a half hour away that wants to speak with Juniors parenmts about his misgivings. This could be entertaining...

Ah yes. Inform Derek that his folks will get involved, whether he wants them to or not, and perhaps the law since you have proofs (at least of some sort) that his dealings were not on the up and up, and let's see what he has to say.

Its all good now, the parent trick did the job. Sorry all of you younger pyros here, character and honesty is important, integrity amongst fellow people is cherished and theft is punished.

Well, that restores some of my faith in humanity. ;)

Too often these days, parents will deny that their precious little brat could have possibly done anything wrong, and threaten to file a lawsuit with someone, somewhere, somehow, because "it couldn't have POSSIBLY been their fault". Glad to hear there's some left that hold their kids to a legitimate moral standard.

Bad scene today...I got home and fired up my ballmill to continue on a batch of lift powder I'm making. It was making quite the banging sound...and turns out the bearings are shot. I can't really complain though as those bearings have been making me goodies for at least 4 years now.

I've been ramping up the production the last few days and this will be a major delay. My mill also serves as a star roller for stars and coated burst, as well as a corning machine. Oh well I guess my work needs some new bearings tomorrow ;)

Finances...ugh.

Roommate and I set out to make shells for the 4th. We got quite ambitious. Now all that's left is the ball mill, media, and paper products. This wouldn't be a problem if the annual party's host didn't move the party from the beginning of august, as it has been for a decade, to 10 July! I'd planned on using July for a lot of pyro work (4 weekends worth) and now that time's gone. Added to that, moving the date up a month causes a money crunch for the last things to purchase. Now silly defeatist roommate comes up with a great idea, and says, "well we can just scale back the number of shells we make." But, uh, we still need the mill good sir...right now we can produce stars for a huge pile of shells, but BP for exactly zero shells.

So, my production schedule is shot to hell, and equipment procurement needs to happen a month sooner than planned. (No, I'm not at all equipped to make a mill at home).

"The show must go on," I thought as I sat in the backyard with a brew, lighting chrys+Ti stars and hucking them into the air out of a garden spade. I came up with a solid plan. Defeatists require reeducation. So I'll just have to borrow the money to get the mill, media, and paper stuff to set a friggin' example. Too bad I committed to driving 5 hours for a concert next weekend too...ouch. Oh well...forward.

Not sure WTF I was doing last night... went to weigh out a 500g batch of willow BP for the ballmill to make lift. I ended up ~100g over, and have no idea where I screwed up. Oh well, I added dextrin and fired up the mill anyway. I think I'll salvage the batch as comets and maybe some as rough powder for shell filler. For the comets I'm going to add some greenmix and then probably ~15% mixed size MgAl or Ti.

Yikes. I made a mistake like that with film developing a couple years back...didn't notice until I'd dumped the mix into my 5 roll developing tank and had 200 some ml extra solution. Oooooops. I made an educated guess on my error, did some math and adjusted time, and the film came out somewhat ok.

Occasional un-depression...more or less fixed my problem, after a couple days of bitching and figuring out how to adapt.

Today totally blew. I got sick, and missed a beautiful day. My tan won't show up. I drove 40 mins to pick up my tux, and found the store closed at 12. WTF??!! I stopped at four hardware stores, and none of them carried sulfuric acid. I then came to realize that I didn't make a move soon enough on a girl, and I think I lost her. FML.

Only mildly depressing since by now I had lost most of the excitement for the launch, but a 5" multibreak I made about 6 months ago blew in the gun:

As I write in the video description, I suspect either cracked spolettes or the shell simply folding in half as the cause of the failure. The first and second break ignited in the gun and the third break survived the lift and broke in the sky. Whatever, I'll figure it out in the next one.
