Twotails Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Why not use giftwraping-tissue paper? thats darn thin, and it still strong when wet. If it burns too fast, why not try treating the paper with Bicarb or waterglass? a very dilute solution of waterglass, applied with eather a paint brush or the paper soaked into it, then dried, may work. I may try this myself.

TheEskimo Posted February 6, 2010 Posted February 6, 2010 Since that there seems so much talk of Ti, I thought I would offer my 2 cents. I am almost out of that wonderfull spherical Ti from Skylighter. Perhaps 100 grams left. I can only find one place that sells spher. Ti, and that from 10-100 mesh. Anyone have any suppliers of spher., or am I SOL? I also noticed that Skylighter no longer sells any Ti.
Twotails Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 (edited) I'll look around for ya, I had a place bookmarked, but if i remember there is a minum order. maby we could get a group buy? Edit-So far i found this: http://www.ihaveadotcom.com/cart/index.php...products_id=335   EDIT: Alright, I sent a request to a manufacturer, for powder consisting of -325 to -400 mesh. They say they can create any mesh size, and im waiting on them.  I'll post the information they give me, and maby we could get a group buy going. But i want to know, is -325 to -400 mesh to fine for our use? should i request somthing finer like 200mesh, or give them a broad range from 150-400 mesh powder(it's spherical in partical size) Edited February 7, 2010 by Twotails

JK, that is a very nice pic, I like both the willow and the pine but yes, the pine can be "fuzzy". Heh, help yourself matey, I'm not precious about my photos unless anyone's making money from them, although if you want to get technical, it's distributed under a 'Creative commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-Share Alike' licence:http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.0/deed.en_GB I'll get round to making a topic for Senko Hanabi soon to stop cluttering up this poor thread.

Twotails Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Well, my knees are screwed, severly. heres the story. About 4 years ago, i disloacted my left knee(also split my knuckle requireing treatment for that), it got better, had to have it in a immobilizer for about a month or so. Now, about 4 years later, the 17th of january, I slipped on slush at UMASS Amherst. they refused to help me, becouse "I would have been a liability" well i was already a liability in my book, i fell on there property, on one of there tours. Well anyway, I fully dislocated my left knee again. Fell down in the slush in agonizing pain, I couldent move, on the almost blacking out(when I did this the first time I blacked out) I knew no one could help me, an ambalance would have taken too long, so i did what anyone in my position would avoid. I set my own knee cap back into place. When i fell and the knee cap disloated fully to the side, my knee immidatly jumped up to my chest. So i had to push my leg back down flat, pick the dislocated knee cap up and push it back into place. it slid back into place with a sick "Shlip" sound, and my leg went back to my chest. by now my leg was killing me, my class was around me(it was a school trip) and i couldent get up. it was snowing, wet and slippery. two of my freinds finaly got me to my feet, carried me to the stairs and set me down. the school said they couldent help, and wouldent send anyone. so my teachers took it into there own hands. i was basicly in the middle of a park on campus, guess what they did? they drove the van over the campus(lawn, walkway, flower bed and all) to get me. my two frends picked me up, and helped me to the van, by now its been 45 minutes sence i fell, (still no one from the school came.) then i had to get into the van. well luckly a BVT student the graduated last year saw the van and came running. so with his help, my two frends, two teachers, we finaly got into the van. then it was a 2 hour drive back to BVT.(fell a 12:00, got out of that school at 1pm, and arrived at BVT at 3) one of my teachers called ahead to get a wheel chair ready, by then my leg had swolen to 3x its normal size, and i couldent move it. they said they couldent let me use a wheel chair to get into the school, i'd have to walk. when they said that i sware my teacher was steaming. So then we got to school, she helped me out of the van(it was still snowing) I was wet, soaked to the bone for having been sitting in the slush at the college for 45 minutes. she called my dad(who works for the school) he came out, pissed that no one had helped me. he called everyone in charge at the school, from his boss, to the dean, to the princaple and vice princaple, i dont think there was an administrator that wasent called. he threatened to sue the school if they dident help me quick(by then i was shivering, could barely stand, and well, i guess i was kinda cold) my teacher who was there with us went inside to get help. when she went to the office(same time my dad was calling) they thought she was a parent, boy was she pissed, she had been working at this school for 20+ years. Finaly my dad, and my teacher talked to the right person, becouse three people( the vice princaple, school security officer, and another administrator) came rushing out with a wheel chair. they brought me inside, and stated to warm up. they were also kissing my rear(i think becouse my dad thretened the sue them?) and said any expenses that happen becouse of this, would be taken care of. Well then my mom showed up. i had called her in the van, and boy did she sound pissed. when she got there, and saw me, i think she was less-pissed. so we get to the emergancy room (now 4pm) and sign in. at 5pm they finaly see me, by then my leg feels like its going to fall off, but i rate my pain at a 5, becouse its not the worst i've felt. then i went to get Xrays. well the ass that was takent them was jostleing my leg around, moving it, so i blow up on him, telling him to stop screwing with it. he then tells me " well, you'll be surprised how many dislocations we put back into place in here" and he kinda chuckles. then (absolulty pissed) i tell him i already put it in place four hours ago. you should have saw his face, i think he shit a brick. then he was more gental. so i fanaly see the doctour, he says i realy screwed it up this time, puts me in the brace and sends me home. now today, i went to orthopedics, and got more xrays. my knees are screwed. the place the knee cap sits, whitch is normaly a groove, I dont have it, there almost flat. also my knee caps are slighly to the side, so there more likely to pop out(both knees) and my legs are shaped weird (not streight) So yeah, not much fun the last few weeks....
NightHawkInLight Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Talk about a bad day, sorry man. If it were me I would sue the hell out of the school for anything possible. They deserve to be destroyed for putting their wallet above the guy lying injured on their sidewalk. Your teacher sounds like the only person there who still has a soul. I hope something can get figured out to help you with your knees.
Steps Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 No matter how hard i try, I'm never allowed to practice drumming at my parents I have a passion for playing and theory but I have no encouragement for anything creative. Swede Posted March 20, 2010 Posted March 20, 2010 Dam closed minded individuals. Go to school. Go to University, Get Married, Have kids. Die. What a life they want for me. When you're a parent, you'll say the same thing... because the alternative is usually much less than satisfactory. Here's the answer... save the things you love and make them passionate hobbies. If you are good enough, the day may come when you can make the transition to pro. In the mean time, you still need to eat, drive, pay the bills, put a roof over your head, etc. There's another secret that is very painful to younger folk to learn... when you take something you love and turn it into a paying job, it becomes work, and 98 times out of 100, the joy you found in it fades to an indifference, if not a near hatred. I used to love to fly. Now, I wake up on the day of a trip and almost want to puke, I'm so sick of it. Remember this classic Dilbertism... if work was fun, people would do it for free. Whenever I'm with some clown who says "I can't believe they are paying me to do this!" I always ruin it for him by asking "So you'd do this for free? No pay?" "Uhh, no" "Then it's not fun. Otherwise, you'd come here and do this for nothing. Or you'd PAY to do it." I can be a real bastard.  So stick with your passion, but remember food and shelter costs $$! Good luck! Don't mean to be a jerk, it's just how it usually is.

I'm working on a career path though there are so many choices and options and most university courses I would want to study are purely for knowledge and not for a job, I do work full time as of now and the pay is pretty decent considering I'm only 18. It's just till I've found what I want to do with myself that I'd be able to stand doing till the day I die. I'm investing about 4500 in an electric drumkit which my family is not happy on me spending but 'eh' is my money and I can practice to the sun rises if I want. Main problem is my family don't believe in doing anything unless its going to get you money or something. I live with my Grandparents and they are very strict, religious and don't believe in any point behind hobbies or pets. My Nonno(Grandfather) says there is no point playing an instrument unless I start at the age of 5. I guess I get my stubbornness from him just in opposite direction as I have been born in a time of oppurtunity instead of war. I'll provem wrong hehe Cheers for the advice Swede, I do understand the world and I'll have to support myself in the future, I'm going to have a blast doing it Edited March 20, 2010 by Steps

We may never make much money as a band, but that's no reason to give it up! I would say though, you might want to consider getting a 'flats' kit to practice on - much cheaper than an electric kit, nearly as quiet, and with all the feel of a real kit.

They do help with jamming though, as can connect guitars and stuff to it and do it that way silent jam with headphones. I'm not going to give up anytime soon, need time to get good hehe.
Bonny Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Although it looked like spring was here, winter decided to give us a nice slap in the face. The weather had been nice +8 etc... then we got a quick dump of snow last night to turn everything white again and it's supposed to be -20 tonight ...hopefully this is the end of winter.
Miech Posted March 25, 2010 Posted March 25, 2010 Vista decided to delete it's bootloader... Again... I don't see why I actually payed money for such a piece of utter feaces.
FrankRizzo Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Vista decided to delete the bootsector, or you messed it up trying to load another OS?
Miech Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I have been running multiple boot systems for years, so I know how that works. The problem seems to be caused by some Vista update which corrupts the MBR, and after reinstalling GRUB from a live CD (so I can actually boot anything at all) Vista is unable to boot. The error message is something like "BOOTMGR is missing...", which is a file I didn't touch at all, so I don't think it is me to blame. On the good side, it gives me the opportunity to install Win7 after recovering the files. (And then resore GRUB once again.) If I didn't need it, I wouldn't run Windows.
NightHawkInLight Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 I felt like Phil Ken Sebben earlier today when I went in to get what I thought was a minor cut in my eye checked out. It hadn't healed for the better part of a week so I figured I had better get it looked at. The optometrist proceeded to dig a tiny sharp spoon into my eye and remove a 1/8" metal splinter that had begun to rust. It likely ended up there from working on my truck over the weekend, but I can't recall the particular moment it happened. The splinter had left rust in my eye, so to remove it, the doctor instructed the nurse to bring in 'the brier' I believe he called it. Looked like a dental drill - But much sharper. "Hold still and look at my ear" were the words he said as he plunged the screaming bit into the center of my vision. Oddly, only a few hours later my eye doesn't feel any worse than it has all week. Still have to use some antiseptic drops for the next few days. When the optometrist said I would be getting a patch, I have to say, I was rather disappointed to discover it consisted not of a black pirate patch, but a lowly cotton ball taped awkwardly to my face. Still, it was effective enough to make me nearly miss my coffee cup and pour piping hot liquid down my pants.
dagabu Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Same thing happened to me a dozen years ago when I was a welder, a grinding sliver bounced over the face shield and past my safety glasses and right into my eye. The difference is that I couldn't open my eye the next morning, it had cemented shut with eye boogers! Good news is that it only took a day or two and I was back at it. Good luck hawk!
Bonny Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010  When the optometrist said I would be getting a patch, I have to say, I was rather disappointed to discover it consisted not of a black pirate patch, but a lowly cotton ball taped awkwardly to my face. Anything in the eye always sucks, but it's really too bad about the eye patch not being a cool one  Same thing happened to me a dozen years ago when I was a welder, a grinding sliver bounced over the face shield and past my safety glasses and right into my eye.    I had metal in trhe eye a few times (also when working as a welder). I still have a blurry spot in one eye that never went away.
dagabu Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Bonny,  Mine was completely healed within the week. It is amazing how fast the eyes heal. I worked in a big Union shop in Fridley making air handlers. We welded mild steel, AR, Galvanized (YUCK!) SST (300 & 400 series), aluminum (60 & 70 series). The best was the 50 pass spray-arc fillet welds on 2" AP plate on cutter wheels for the recycling industry, we couldn't make them fast enough. The Chinese would sell them for a few hundred dollars and we would get a service call and find the impellers bent 90°. The AR steel will not bend, it will chip and shatter but will not bend. D
