Pretty green flame Posted September 23, 2009 Author Posted September 23, 2009 I was just depressed to discover that a website such as this: http://www.stop-fireworks.org/english.htm exists I hate these people. To be honest, I would not have anything against them if they were seen as all the other nutjobs who want to ban fun stuff, but the most disturbing fact is that fireworks haters get sooo much attention from the media. They always show some 150 year olds on TV saying how much all the booming around town disturbs them, and people actually feel sympathy for them, what they don't understand is that those 150 year old hate EVERYTHING, but ofcourse fireworks are on the front page of all news media around December. I hate those people SO much!
TrueBluePyro Posted September 23, 2009 Posted September 23, 2009 Holy shit, this pisses me off soo much, I mean it is freaking ridiculousthe shit they wrote in there. There is such a smal % of people who make fireworks and fireworks them selves and yet the bull shit that is being said, I just cant believe it. We should make one of those email things just keep on going around to people and telling them why fireworks are good and what not and blar blar. I dont know,,, NightHawkInLight, sending an email i dont think will do heaps if anything, they have there stupid little mind set on what ever they are trying to achive. What they are using to try and stop fireworks is a scare tatic, saying all this BS like OMG THIS SHIT IS TOXIC, narh shit, im sure there are soooooooooooo many other things that are doing waayyyy more damage. /rant/ wow, got that out, but siously that site ticks me off. Something has to be done, people need to be educated. Do they even know what fireworks are? Or even how they are made? OK rant is about to start agian, lol, better stop.

I got a bit set back looking at that site for sure, that was a very narrow eyed site, maby they(him/her) (its probably not many people involved in that site) should focus on something far more dangerous things, i would think that in Germany or Brazil or USA or any other country with public access to buy weapons without a proper license, it dies more people from gunshot injuries a year, then firework accidents kills worldwide a year im not judging any country by all means, but if someone really got alot of free time to make a site like that, a firework banning site should NOT be one of them.... hope nobody get offended by my statement, in Norway we cant even own a slingshot without the proper paperwork in order, that is actually forbidden anyway, and only licensed small or big game hunters are allowed to have .22 rifle or shotgun Ok, i think ill stop now, before i rip my keyboard apart

Crime is a product of the social environment, not what is/is not legal. If you're mad enough to shoot someone, you're mad enough to bash them over the head with a lamp. Banning things never solves problems, but it's a mindset many people have. I recall a year or two ago when a city in California banned the sale of tiny baggies because that's what drugs were being sold in They failed to realize that a tiny amount of drugs can also fit in a big baggie... There will always be a means to violent crime. Banning things, whatever they may be, just punishes the rest of us with no effect on crime itself..

I agree with you Nighthawk, banning doesnt work at all, im also for a pro gun community, i like to fire guns at targets, go hunting, etc. but because of the laws and system were i live, im not able to, without beeing an active member with a hunting community.(and have a non registered spotless name with the police) luckily i have hunters in the family, so i go with them when the season is there. I actually got me a crossbow sendt from US, and lucky me, the custom never opened and check what the (used kids toys actually was) hehe, thats what the seller had to write on the label, but im not allowed to use it though, i laughed when i called the police and told them my "unckle died" and left me a crossbow, police replied that there is a weapon amnesty in may, i can give my crossbow to the police then, without further investigation, but i told him i cannot leave that great piece of work to the law, it is a rare and beatiful item, he understood and asked if my unckle bought it before 1990, i said yes, and that gave me permit to own it but not use it at hunting or target practice And about firework, last year they banned the use of firework on sticks here, because stupid drunk kids aimed rockets at groups of people around the country, and banning rockets was a result of that. And Norway is just as brutal as the rest of the civilized world, people have weapons from the army, somebody have used them at people, and than all soldiers on alert had to give up their weapons because of that, go figure I do have the hunter course, but its alot of paper work to buy the weapons, must have the police permit to own a rifle, if we want a pistol, we must be a member in a pistol club for minimum 2 years, and then be recommended by another member to own your own gun,but that doesnt make it certain you get the permit, its just so very restrictions over here, it takes away the joy, its so much work that almost nobody bothers to do it, its not like i am a criminal or in the police records, hehe, maby it could look that way when you read what i say, no nopro gunspro fireworkcheers NH, we speak soon its not the gun that kills, its the madman shooting at people Edited September 23, 2009 by skyisthelimitinc
TheEskimo Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Aye, that website has got it dead-on. We should also ban cars, knives, high-rise buildings, baseball bats, and paintball guns. Silly things are going out and killing/maiming innocent civilians. On the depression side of things: http://www.pyramydair.com/p/condor-air-rifle.shtml. Unfortunately, I'm poor right now. Silly pyrotechnics and its addicting nature.
Richtee Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 (edited) This is perhaps more appropriate for the "WTF is happening with my life" thread! Fish... I been there, done that. Yes... you will have some regrets. But that's life. You have done what's needed for your success at this point. I miss many from those days for me, and likely will never see them again. A few I have made an effort to maintain contact..and some may do so with you. Serendipity and true friends and kindred spirits seem to all add up to... Mumbles Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 So, I am on a very tight schedule for two upcoming pyro shoots. I was going to finish up some crossettes tonight, make some rosettes, and some insert shells. I get everything ready to go, just to find out that my scale is dead. The load sensor is completely shot, and it can't weigh anything even marginally accurately. Lack of scale prevents all of the above.
FrankRizzo Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Mumbles, Walmart has a cheap postal scale that has ~1g resolution. Ive got one as my backup/heavyweight scale. It's not the best, but it works in a pinch.

The O-chem exam is at 7:30 AM tomorrow morning, and my funeral will be in the evening at my friend's house! Ah...Don't know how I'm gonna pass...or what to do if I don't. Honestly my grade in O-chem has been barely passing the whole term, so I only have to barely pass the final. But even that's not exactly the easiest thing to do... I don't know where all my friends will end up...but I'll definetely make an effort to stay in touch with them. Most of them have a couple more terms to go at Kettering, so I know where to find them in the next year . I figure I'll drive up just to make fun of them for still being in school and having to take exams and such.

I figure I'll drive up just to make fun of them for still being in school and having to take exams and such.Good luck to ya! You sure don't make me regret my choice to only go to school part time. Of course...You're almost done. I on the other hand... Remember you have that shell over here. It's just waiting for a friend or two I would hate to keep it waiting after you're out of school, it might not buy other excuses. Phew, October 17th is the next MPAG shoot, and after 3 weeks work I've just today finished the first break of 4 for the shell I hope to bring. I suppose I would have worked faster had the weather been more suitable for drying stars. A few days back I decided, screw it, and whipped out the toaster oven. It's been running just about nonstop for a few days now. I've been feelin your pain Mumbles.
flying fish Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) Coincidentally, Oct. 17th is also the deadline for the Draft of my Kettering Thesis, which I've barely started...So I prolly can't spend TOO much time on building. Surely a day or two could be spared, however! As far as O-chem goes...I'm giving myself a 50/50 chance that I passed. However, after talking to the prof he agreed that, since it's my last term, he'd let me re-take the final if it turns out that I didn't get enough points to pass. He told me to "keep studying", just in case. So it's not all bad. As far as college friends ...we all just had a bonfire night. Great way to end the term. Edited September 27, 2009 by flying fish
Mumbles Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 To add to the previous depression, I got sick and couldn't go saturday anyway. Looks like I should have some stuff for tri-state though.
Swede Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 On that anti-fireworks site - do we actually release radioactive materials? WOW! Nuclear fireworks! You could pack the effects of a 24 inch shell into a festival ball. If only they would reveal the secret information... fireworks often contain radioactive ingredients... blah blah puke I wish I had extreme hakkor skillzzz... that web site would be toast.
Mumbles Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 We release no more radioactive materials than normal. Most atoms have a radioactive isotope. Whoever made that site's breathing is currently putting off radioactive Carbon-13, so we should probably destroy that radiative pollution source. Bananas also have radioactive potassium in them, can't have those. Strontium has a bad rap in some anti-firework stuff I see. It happens because of Sr-90. It was a contaminant from the Chernobyl disaster, and possibly from the atomic bombs. It is radioactive, and integrates into your bones, causing cancer. Oddly enough it is also used medically to cure bone cancer. The amount of radioactive strontium-90 is negligable. I've seen crazy claims that radioactive strontium waste could contaminate our sources, which is impossible as our stuff doesn't come from metal stocks, but natural deposits and chemical manipulations of them.
50AE Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Bah... these days I'm kinda depressed, because many bad things happened during the time. I'm feel like I'm not in shape to do anything with fun. The first day I I was building an DIY audio amplifier and I almost burned a good speaker, maybe because of a wrong connection. The second day an old security guy from our residential building died from a heart stroke and I was the first whitness. Ambulance, police and morgue, RIP. Good thing I almost forgot the guy's face with open eyes. The third day a 200 grams of glitter stars and 500 grams of smoke mix got wet because of a rain, I couldn't prevent it, because I was out. Saturday, I'm doing my 24h job as a security guy in the building, nothing usual. Sunday it was raining, and we planned to go to the mountain hills to make a BBQ, but no, weather sucked. Monday, horrible school.. And I have to do 13 exams before Christmass. I just want to relax to get in shape again, but I can't, because I have many things to do. And for now, I do everything without fun, like I used before. I hope I get fixed soon, because I got fireworks to make for New Year.
Swede Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Bad shit always happens in clusters. When something evil happens, like a car accident, a failed exam, bad wx, girlfriend/wife mad, then look over your shoulder because sure as hell something else is bearing down on you! One of my favorite Radio guys is Dennis Prager. He has a "happiness hour" every week, discussing the hows and whys of happiness. He has an excellent philosophy which I agree 100% with... We have a moral obligation to be happy. It is not a selfish thing, but instead it is altruistic. By being happy, we are kinder, more attentive to family and friends, and automatically improve the lives of those we deal with. When you are with happy people, you are elevated as well. Prager on happiness For much of my life, I, like most people, regarded the pursuit of happiness as largely a selfish pursuit. One of the great revelations of middle age has been that happiness, far from being only a selfish pursuit, is a moral demand. When we think of character traits we rightly think of honesty, integrity, moral courage, and acts of altruism. Few people include happiness in any list of character traits or moral achievements. But happiness is both. Happiness -- or at least acting happy, or at the very least not inflicting one's unhappiness on others -- is no less important in making the world better than any other human trait. With some exceptions, happy people make the world better and unhappy people make it worse. There you go! You are required to be happy, so those bummed out, do what you need to do to fix it! There's my cut & paste philosophy of the week.
TheEskimo Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) Blegh...I've been lazy, and I need 10 articles, cited in APA format, for tomorrow morning for my HS graduation project. Gotta stop browsing APC, and get to work. Design considerations of hypersonic aircraft...I'm looking into a career in aerospace engineering. And I have a calc review sheet, and trig review sheet due tomorrow, too. And a 3-5 page essay on The Trial, by Franz Kafka, due Friday; and an essay on the effects of natural gas well drilling in may area for Chem. And gotta study CPR for health class. And a test on Catcher in the Rye, tomorrow, too. And I gotta go run 3.1 miles in less than 20 mins tomorrow, too. And yesterday did 16 400s on the track for practice, full sprints, with a 50m break in between. Aieee!!!! It's 6:20 pm, get to work, Willing, GET TO WORK!! I'll leave you guys now, stop my whining, and go do something useful. And if I don't get done, here is what will be playing tomorrow morning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqPz5B-TA1w Edited October 6, 2009 by TheEskimo
scarbelly Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Good luck with all of that man! and I thought I had a lot of shit to worry about for the next few days...
Ventsi Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 50AE, awlays look up. I myself have found through repeated experience that when ever a whole bunch of bad stuff happens to you it awlays leads to something good and worth you troubles. Karma, Ying-Yang whatever floats your boat, I believe in them and this way of though has always proven itself to me.
TheEskimo Posted October 12, 2009 Posted October 12, 2009 (edited) Blegh. I think I inhaled some KP, or else I am reacting to some insect sting/bite. The day it started to get really bad, I noticed a painful bite/sting mark on my neck, after waking up. At first I thought that it was KP, because I had been mixing up a 100 gram batch of stars without a dust mask(stupid me). But now with the fever, and couphing, it doesn't match the symptons of KP inhalation.Any thoughts? And so people don't get mixed-up, here's how things went.Friday-mix up stars-just sceen, didn't notice any powders flying aroundSaturday, pump stars. A Minor couph that nightSunday, start couphing repeatedly later in day. Bite noticed that morning.Monday, can't stop couphing unless asleep or eating, fever develops.101 degrees. Mumbles Posted October 13, 2009 Posted October 13, 2009 I've been much more reckless with KP than that and have noticed nothing more than mild irritation. Past some black kleenex and some mild coughing, nothing has ever come of any of my chemical exposures besides barium. That sure sounds like a disease not chemical reaction. There are very few chems I know of that can induce a fever.
