Hmm, maybe I'm just a lucky one, but I didn't have a problem milling that chunky red gum. I got 5lbs free from Skylighter about a year ago, shortly after it arrived I milled a couple hundred grams of it in my 3lb rock tumbler mill with chrome plated media. Mine didn't really stick together at all, just a bit around the inside of the jar like BP does, which was easy to get out since the jar is rubber.

I milled it until I couldn't feel any grit anymore between my fingers, for a couple hours or so. I checked it every 1/2 hour because I was afraid it would clump, as some sodium benzoate had clumped really bad onto all the media before. It seems fine enough, about like airfloat, and it does have an odd smell. But for some reason I like the smell...

I'm thinking that you just shouldn't run the mill too long, and check on it until it is fine enough to use. That way it may not have the chance to clump into an ungodly mess...

Silicon requires hazmat shipping even around the US, so have fun trying to get it shipped overseas. It's not really needed. Metals can be used to make quite suitable primes.

thats just stupid, if anything, it would just stir things up agian.

With the silicon, you could buy it from keten, but they suck, I wouldnt mind some silicon either.

well I have been using dark flake in primes with success but new chemicals are all ways fun

stupid people trying to control how we speak next they will tell us making fireworks is illegal

This deserves it's own post.

Sometimes I really hate people. Overly political correct people especially.

A principal at a school in Sweden has banned the name Swine-flu because of the goddamn muslims in the school. It is ok to call it "the new flu". I hate this countrys politics, Anyone opposing the system because of the way they treat refugees and ragheads are nazis or racists. We have to be quiet and wait for the muslims to take over our nation, like the Mullahs proclaim they shall.

In 1972, George Orwell's "1984" was science fiction or fantasy. In 2009, it is prophetic. This crap is simply frightening.

Big Brother lives. The Thought Police live. MiniTruth is reality.

Fireworks doubleplus ungood.

I've been saying pretty much the same thing for a while now. Just a matter of time till 2 + 2 = 5.

does any one know were i might be able to buy some silicon powder

How much do you want it? :)

Sigma here in Perth has it, but it is AR grade. I don't remember the exact numbers but it was something like $150 for 200g or $250 for 100g. Either way, it was out of my budget.

I haven't tried...But it should be MUCH cheaper than that to make silicon dioxide thermite and extract the silicon from the slag...

Nighthawk,

There's an easily ignited formula over on amazingrust.com which includes a flux and a bit of chlorate to get things going, but I found that much of the silicon created is converted to the nitride. It's extremely hard to grind down.

It works just as well to use magnalium in place of the silicon in primes.

I got some silicon powder from ebay...some apparently well know supplier (fine powders something...can't remember)...Not sure *why* it didn't need to be hazmat shipped...

So yeah...more depression:

I feel as if I'm helplessly strapped to a railroad track, with a train carrying 20 tons of organic chemistry only a few days away... (good analogy?) Yes, that means I have a test coming up :o.

Jesus Christ, just let off a 16mm core burner with a 1.5" or so payload and my camera man screwed up the recording (as in he left it on picture mode). It wasn't the best, but it had a good altitude, flew straight and had glitter and blue stars which looked good together. I hate it when you don't record/bad recording and it so happens to be exceptional device; I'm sure it happens to everyone once in a while. Don't got enough initiative to make another tube yet, but will be back to fight the evil video camera.

The better the device works, the less likely it is to be caught on film. I totally know how that goes...

finally some one else agrees about 1984 but were you live fireworks may be double plus ungood were i live the thought police actively monitor us were i live censorship of media (even the internet now) (just like in the newspapers of 1984 )is carried out by the government the world we live in is changing. we our selves are creating newspeak by simplifying and removing aspects especially expressive ones from out language rather than saying that was kind of funny or that was funny or that was halirous or that was so insanely funny we simply say LOL

in most countries on earth people who dont think the same and who wish to express them selves in art forms such as pyrotechinics are not permitted to do so. because in a world were one can express them selves people can still hope and can still dream and we could all lose that.

today we live in a world were we are no longer trusted to look after our selves. how long ago was it that things like dynamite were available at the hardware store and not meaning to be racist but there were Muslims around than and we weren't scared they would blow us up nor did they think it to be worth while but now they may kill a few or even thousands but they bring fear to the world because we have become soft and rely on the supporting back bone of our governments

every few years you vote for some one new to lead the country but what are you voting for nothing nothing changes we continue on our path of destruction

p.s. im sorry for rambling but this definitely belongs in the depression thread

I totally agree with the above.

Somebody hand me a tissue.....I think I'm gonna cry. My dad asked me if it would be legal for me to do a show for someone. I said, well, it's illeagal for me to move completed items/BP/stars, etc without a license. I thought that I had explained the rules of the game fairly well before, but we got into an in-depth discussion about the legality of what I'm doing. He got a little leary, and so I had to burn all of my completed BP/stars/primes/MCRH, etc. Looked pretty, but I died a little inside. So pyrotechnics are off until I build a Type-4 Storage Magazine.

That bites. It's sad that your honesty backfired like that.

Have you seen that there are several recent articles about making a magazine from various job boxes and cheap gun safes? They look very do-able, and the whole thing can probably be done for <$100 if you scrounge. I'm going to execute one of the RIGID job-box magazines this fall. It'll be a fun project.

The day will come, too, when you are master of your own world. It just takes time. Good luck.

Well, he supports what I'm doing, he just wants me to be legal as I can be. Yeah, I saw that article, it was on the Skylighter blog. A quicky question. Pennsylvania law does not allow CONSUMER fireworks other than ground devices, sparklers; no aerial devices. You need a license to shoot off commercial aerial products. Does this pertain to homemade stuff, or can I just go with what the Orange Book says about making your own fireworks?

For all you gore/science types, or just those with unhealthy interests in other's pain  :

Attached is a X-ray shot of the screwing I took. Also, had some minor bleeding issues after the operation- went in this AM and had the cast removed to check it out. Took pix while it was off. They re-dressed and wrapped it, and gave me this HUGE boot to strap over it for 2 more weeks. Sigh.
