Rich, in regard to my other post, grab that carpet tubing, and make some fountains. It will impress the neighbors when a 100ft wall of sparks errupts from your backyard, trust me. :)

Or you could move to 5" multibreaks with bottom shot.

Seriously Rich, you can NEVER have enough cardboard tubes in different sizes. I got pretty much every size you can imagine up to 4,5". What do I do with them so far? Nothing at all but I know they can be of good use some day! I've used the 4,5" tubes to transport stuff so it can't get damaged, I've used it as packaging material for postage!

There's a million things to do with cardboard tubing!

I get 3" heavy wall tubes free from work, the majority of the time I cant be bothered taking them and throw them in the cardboard crusher, they come off the industrial size pallet wrap rolls :)

That's where I got mine from before as well, I used to wrap the pallets like hell just so I could get a new tube. :D

Now I am using the HDPE tubes that they use as tubes for silage plastic since I found a shitload for free: http://www.trioplast.nu/index.cfm?SidorID=483

it's one of those days again... One of those days where you wake up and know the day is just gonna be shit. I got lectures starting in half an hour so I'm already late and I won't be done at uni till about 5 and I gotta be at work at 6... So basically means I won't be home till 10 tonight...

Long day ahead of me and I really don't feel like it today

Wow...I just had a pretty depressing conversation with my friends. 103 co-op students from my school were just laid off from GM. That's not overall, that's what JUST happened, just now. And we are a school of only about 2500...so that's a sizable portion of our population! That's not even starting to count all of the co-op jobs that were lost prior to just now in GM and all the other companies that employ students. Apparently students are disposable because they are easier to get rid of (since the terms of employment are "temporary").

The consequence of this is that the university (which happens to be the former GM Institute, now under new ownership and called Kettering University) might have increased trouble recruiting students and funding our institution - seeing how there will be increased competition among students for fewer and fewer co-op positions. Luckily the company I work for seems to be doing just A' OK.

And Luckily, I will most likely graduate before SHTF.

Have I said anything about the physics program here? It is wickedly awesome. We have some really good/ competent faculty from areas such as photonics & optics, Material science, Nanotechnology, and acoustics (musical-people-turned-physics-professors!). They remind me a little bit of the cast of "Ghostbusters." We also have really fun toys like our Environmental Scanning electron microscope which can image dialectric surfaces without sputtercoating, pretty near the resolution of what you'd get from a metal surface. That basically means that you can look at anything you want to - including living organisms - down to a resolution of several nanometers!

Ugh....

I've heard that Schlitz came out with a "new/old" beer a few months ago that is actually quite good. Might be worth looking into for those "drinkin' on the cheap" nights. :)

What I really miss are the beers from my youth, that used to be VERY good. Then the parent company got bought by Anheuser-Busch or some other corporate pig and the beer went straight into the toilet:

Leinenkugel's, Rolling Rock, Cold Spring, Hamms (long gone), Schlitz (originally brewed a half-mile from where I live), etc.

Thank god for the microbreweries that have appeared since then. Summit Brewing produces some of the best domestic beers I've ever had, although their quality has dropped slightly in the last few years.

I am well aware of the schlitz revival, and yes it is pretty good. It was after 9pm though, and my roomate force it upon me, the milwaukee's best ice.

Also TS, I can assure you Hamms is alive and well. At least alive.

The worst beer to have ever passed my lips was a Blatz. It was so disgusting that I kept the other 5 around to foist off on pains-in-my-ass who would hang around my garage getting in the way. Would have been ca 1982.

Molson used to make a good beer. I don't think they still make the type I drank in the early '80's when I was in Rochester, NY. Was an ale, IIRC.

Labatt had an ale was known as "50". Recently changed the name to...perhaps "Labatt Ale"?

Might the Molson you speak of been known as "Ex" or Export ale?

 Say what? I thought Hamms was long gone. The original brewery here in Minneapolis is still standing, but hasn't had a brewer in it (Hamms or any other) for ages. In fact, I think it's nearly derelict.

Where can you buy Hamms?

Posted (edited)
You can buy it in north dakota, no problem. Cheap as water! ...and safer to drink. Edited by tentacles

The first legal beer I ever drank (at 16, under the tutelage of an adult) was "Pearl." I sneaked into the kitchen and poured it down the drain. My opinion of Pearl has not changed since then.

I don't recall that being the name, was there a 'Golden Ale' or something along that line?

I remember a green bottle, little else...

Hmmm There's Molson Golden, but I don't think that's an ale. It came in a green bottle. Not sure if they made a Golden ale or not.

30-pack?

Gawd... it'd take me a decade to drink it! :D

I'd be happy with one bottle. I see that Miller owns it now.

I'm curious to see if it compares to Hamm's of the 60's and early 70's. The natural spring they drew from, when they brewed it here in the Cities, was spectacular.

LOL!!! Thanks, Charlie.

What a blast from the past! I haven't seen that commercial in about 40 years!

Theres a bunch of them on youtube I was just watching. Pretty good. I liked these two the best:

Its too bad commercials like these would never fly anymore. The cartoons obviously appeal to kids too much and make them want to drink lots of beer. Various indian groups would probably be upset too.

I think the Action Squad kids infiltrated the old brewery through the St.Paul utility tunnel system a few years ago.

Edit: I guess they just jumped the fence, but they explored all over the limestone caves. Here's a link: http://www.actionsquad.org/hammsoverview.htm

Rumor is that employees were urged to drink on the job in the name of "quality control". What a dream job that would be. :)

I need to bitch. I'm sorry, I know I'm lucky to have a job; the economy sucks, and people are hurting. Most of you know I'm a commercial pilot. Picture Quagmire minus the sexcapades. I checked our company's computer system and found out I'm flying today with one of the most hated people we have. The guy is just a flaming arsehole. Imagine being jammed in a closet for 8 hours with someone you despise, and the feeling is mutual. Oh yes, you get 2 potty breaks of 2 minutes each.

Kill me. Or tell me to stop whining. Either would be welcome. I will spend eight hours daydreaming about what sort of noxious chemical I could slip into his coffee... nothing lethal, and all in pure theory/fantasy.
