dynomike1 Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 1. In a cylinder shell. Does it matter whether you use a flash bag,or just dump it in?2. In a cylinder shell, in a bag. Does it matter where you put it, since flash is a lot faster than bp? Seems like if you put it at the fuse it would just blow the top out more than the bottom. Looks like it would do better in the center. Seems like all the tutorials it was attached to the spoulet. Anyone done a test on this?
pyrojig Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 The speed of the burn rate on flash make it place-able anywhere in the shell. It does not need to be contained by a baggie or be attached directly to the fuse. The use of hot flash will need little if any confinement . The casing cant get out of the way fast enough to contain the blast. No matter where it is placed it will perform. Slow flash may need the extra confinement( stronger case) , but it still is not crucial for placement .
dynomike1 Posted August 22, 2013 Author Posted August 22, 2013 So what you are saying is that the pressure is the same in the whole casing before it opens.
pyrojig Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 Yes , the reaction is instant, and 10x as fast as bp. The confinement is not really needed on the standard 70/30 mix above a grams weight. The use of slow flash will still need a confinement, but once it ignites it accelerates in burn so fast that it confines and goes as a whole .
Mumbles Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Some feel that the making shells using a flash bag is safer than allowing it to sit loose in a shell. A properly built flash bag will often fly up in the air and explode when the spolette burns through in the case of a flowerpot. I do find that with ball shells, using loose flash or whistle is a little more forgiving than using a flash bag. I think it's just a matter of concentration.
