sjaak Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 hi guys, i need some advice about star size's. Last year i made a couple of 3'' and 5'' ball shells for new year's eve, i made tt stars using a star pump and some cut red en green rubber stars .For my 3'' shells i used a 3/8'' pump and for my 5'' a 5/8'' pump the shells where pretty nice.Because i don't like the uneven shape's and size's and the acetone smell of the cut stars i want to make some pumped colored stars this year.Working whit a starpump is a time consuming job so i was thinking about ordering some starplates but i don't now which size for the next star compo's. Testing shells is not really a option in the area where i live so maybe you guys can help me. pihko blue kppotassium perchlorate 63copper oxide 13parlon 14red gum 10dextrin 5 buell redpotassium perchlorate 35strontium carbonate 25magnalium 14parlon 13red gum 7dextrin 6 hardt's #1 white strobebarium nitrate 51potassium nitrate 8magnalium 13sulfur 23dextrin 5 I was thinking a 3/8'' starplate for my 3'' shells and a 1/2'' plate for my 5'' shells but i'm not sure maybe this is to big for perchlorate stars?I can choose 4 different size's 1/4'' , 3/8'' , 1/2'' and 5/8''.So can you guys give me some advice ? sorry for my bad English reading is not much of a problem but writing is difficult i hope you guys understand. Carbon796 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 As a general guide line, a recommend finished star size, to include prime. For round stars in round shells, would be ...1/4 " for 3" shells and 3/8 " for 5" shells. So I would use those size starplates. They will be a little bigger when primed, but still serviceable.
