uncrichie Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I finally milled some BP. I have not tested it in any way. My plan is to coat some rice hulls. However I've seen anything from 4-1 to 7-1 ratios, what do you recommend? Then I was going to place a small amount (tsp. or tbsp) of the hulls on the ground and light it with a fuse. What should I expect? If the BP is good should it go up in a whoosh? Or will it burn for a second or two? Would this be a valid test? What do you guys think? Many thanks, Kurt.
pyrokid Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Coated rice hulls should burn very quickly. Mine seem to almost pop when they burn. I suggest that you test your mill dust before you coat the hulls, just to be sure that you have good powder. Good luck!
pyrojig Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 (edited) I second what pyrokid said. The burn should thump , and if your using very reactive charcoals then it may even be more explosive in its burn rate .I would suggest 4-1 to start out . It s a good standard to go by. More powder on the hulls allows more powder per volume in the shell , giving a more gaseous break, a bit more powerful. I get around this with the aid of a booster in smaller shells . Bigger shells(6"+) dont take over hard breaks though.http://s918.photobuc...C01118.mp4.htmlhttp://s918.photobucket.com/user/pyrojig/media/SNC00481.mp4.html Edited August 9, 2013 by pyrojig
Bobosan Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 (edited) Put a very small amount of your mill dust on 8x11 sheet of paper and light the dust. If the powder is milled well with good starting material, it should burn quickly with little residue and barely singeing the paper. Edited August 9, 2013 by Bobosan
uncrichie Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 Thanks everyone for your responses. Pyrojig your two videos really helped alot. I'm what you would call a visual learner so seeing it removes all doubt. Thanks again, Kurt
pyrojig Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 No prob. I too am a visual learner , and am glad it helped out. Post some video or pics if you get time of your finished product.
