Too little thrust on this and too long a delay had some stars hitting ground.

Going to increase KNO3 to 63%

Not too shabby, say, is this one of your first rockets?

Do you mill your fuel?

Posted

Yes I do. Ball milled for 15 minutes, then mixed with 70/30 alcohol/water. After it is dried,I then mill for 30 mins and I add 2% mineral oil to keep dust down. 60/30/10+2

It is my sixth succesfull rocket. I had a few CATOS before i tried this method and ratios.

I don't think there is any problem with the thrust. If possible reduce the depth of the header above the core a little and your stars burnt for quite a time hence them hitting the ground. Look at a video of a commercial rocket and time how long the stars burn for. Here's some Zink rockets. See how quickly the stars burn out.
Often it's between 1 and 2 seconds in commercial rockets. That is a very good rocket. I wish some of my early rockets had been as good. What is your location? I guess you are in the UK judging by your accent. If so, I am too and live near to Brighton.

Thanks for that info Mortartube. Nice to know I've finally got an English accent after trying to lose the Aussie one I had.

I am in the UK,Manchester area.

Oh! You Aussies aren't so bad. You've got all the red gum and gum acacia on Kangaroo Island. :)

was the time fuse on the ball shell to long?

Thrust looked pretty good carrying a 3" shell. Could be a little stronger but I think a shorter delay is all that is needed. Not bad for being new to rockets.

I`d try dropping the mineral oil down to 1% in the main fuel to spice it up and use no oil in the delay fuel so it burns faster. Pipe some blackmatch to the centre of the shell and bobs your uncle. Edited by Col
