MrB Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I'm hunting for quickmatch, since mine is running out. I've been using this quickmatch i got a looooong time ago. You know the kind. Light brown paper wrapping, flat, 5 strands of black match inside. Been working great for me, and until a year ago or so, i though this was the norm for how these fuses were made. Found out they now make em with a wide flat strip of black match, rather then the strands, and the paper wrapping is either plastic, or plastic coated paper. (Water proofing i suppose) Isn't anyone making stranded quick match any more?If it's still being made, can it be obtained in EU? If it can't be had, then i'll have to adapt, but i don't wanna, help me out. B!
mikeee Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Most countries regulate the sale and storage of quickmatch fuse these days. You might need a license to purchase this product depending on the country you live in.If you can find some you might want to stock up on a year or two's needs.
nater Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Last rolls of QM (Lidu brand) I bought were 5 strand and waterproof piping. The only time I see the flat ribbon match is on cheap commercial shells and the quality is low. The match crumbles easily and I would not want to us it on my own devices. 2
mikeee Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 You can make your own quickmatch tubes with a dowel and lightweight kraft paper.Glue on one edge and spiral wrap the kraft paper onto the dowel and slide it off.You can roll them to about 3 foot length on average without a problem sliding them off the dowel. You can then make some black match to insert into the tubes.I just purchased some quickmatch last week from a source in Florida if you are interested. He still has quite a few cases left in his stock. (KingShine waterproof quickmatch) (Perc based "black match") (5-strand)Not sure if he can mail it overseas without any problems.
Blackthumb Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I have no trouble making my own....pipes also.....I use newsprint end rolls....cheap and many uses in pyro....

The match crumbles easily and I would not want to us it on my own devices.I've only ever seen this crap on rolls, and it's as you say, crumbly junk, and pretty much garbage. I'm amazed it works in commercial shells, but i'm sure as hell not going to use it if i have any alternatives. Got a lead on some confirmed stranded stuff in the UK, i'm going to see what comes from that, and it seams PyroGate has confirmed 5 stranded quick match as well, if the UK thing doesn't work out. Someone went through a bit of trouble to let me know they might be able to help me, so i thought id let them see what they can do first, just so i didn't waste their time, and so on. Also, it takes a bit of time, and i'm not sure i'd want to spend enough time on it to make sure i get consistent results all the time. It might get here without issues, but if they decide to check it in customs we'd both be in trouble, me and him that is, unless he label and ship it as explosives, in which case i don't wanna pay for shipping. ;- )Hence i'd rather shop inside EU, customs aren't as likely to touch that. Thank you guys for the input. Any other ideas of sources are welcome.B!
mikeee Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 http://www.pyrobin.com/files/quick_match_piping.jpgYou can get the quickmatch piping in longer lengths, but most uses require a 1 meter or less length for a typical shell. The ones I roll are long enough for 95% of the pyro applications. Some of the kits you can purchase have the fast paper fuse instead of the black match.
