nater Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Legally speaking, I would assume that since it is homemade BP it would be a no go. But that is just a guess. That said, you would not attract any more attention that firing a golf ball canon. Discretion and kind neighbors are key.

Discretion and kind neighbors are key.under US federal regs it's legal to make your own BP and fireworks without a BATF license as long as Its for your own useYou don't give it away or sale itYou store it in accordance with BATF regsMy understanding as far fireworks go as long as make the same type as sold in Arizona it should be good to go making the same !If I'm wrong someone let know before I buy cems to make az type fireworks
dynomike1 Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Yea but you know sometimes county and city regs. superseded Federal regs.I also noticed in the paper last week they arrested about 15 people for illegal fireworks. I haven't talked to the sheriff or police chief yet. If you are using a Baseball i guess it depends on witch way you turn it that would be a cannon or mortar because it doesn't explode or burst into any type of flames. I'll try to look it up when i find my book.
Carbon796 Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) I would consider it a Canon. your using it to fire a inert projectile. I would not "volunteer" any other information than that. If you were firing a commercial bought canon, with goex, and testing/timing it, would they care ? I would suggest you pack and put up your equipment and supplies before testing. Out of sight out of mind. Fill an old goex can with the powder your currently testing. If it looks like goex and smells like goex, it must be commercially bought goex. The average "person" would not know the difference. You could have activated.charcoal in there, they would think it was goex. Have another canon set up also, that you are allowed to use. The Yankee's always win, because everyones looking at the pin stripes. Show them the pin stripes, but don't show them anything else. If they don't like you firing a baseball up in to the air. Apologise sincerely, offer to let them confiscate the " canon" Even if your making the same fireworks as they sell in AZ. your still manufacturing an explosive. All amateur manufactured fireworks are classified as such. Even if its one of those F'ing snakes : ) Edited July 23, 2013 by Carbon796 1
Xtreme Pyro Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 dwheadstone, you ever thought about joining a club? I'd look into joining the WPA if I were you, we have two major events a year. First one is called "Winterblast" which is held at Sara Park in Lake Havasu City AZ, that's normally in the middle of February. The second event is called "Do-it" which is held in Hawthorne NV, the next one is September 26 - 28, cleanup on the 29th. At both of these events, you can manufacture, buy, and shoot to your hearts content. There is also chemical vending, and hands on seminars which include shell building, and other great topics. Winterblast is the biggest event of the two, and within an hours drive from where you are, It will be 5 days long in 2014. http://www.westernpyro.org

Arthur Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 As ever it's how much nuisance you cause that matters. If you hurt anyone or damage any property then expect the full force of the law and compensation for civil damage. If you have a firing site where no-one will ever find, hear or see you then you are a lot further from being caught.
