w4cbl Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 How long can you store, in optimum conditions: 1) Meal-D and/or granulations? 2)BP based star comps and/or completed stars?
mike_au Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Optimum conditions? I wouldn't count on it being in perfect condition any more than one and a half, maybe two centuries even under ideal conditions Powder kegs have been recovered from sunken ships decades later and still found to be usable. The main thing is to keep your powder dry, even small amounts of moisture are enough for mould to start growing (I suspect it may feed on dextrin so straight 75:15:10 powder with no binder might not go mouldy so easily). Keep it dry and in an air tight container and you should be good for 10 years at the very least.
Seymour Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I've seen mould grow on 75/15/10 + 10% water after just under a week. I'm not sure what they were eating, perhaps KNO3, but they really liked it and were thriving! I wouldn't say that was common, and definitely as Mike is saying, if it's dry it'll store for as many days are you are around to keep it dry.
Zumber Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I have stored my meal/granulation for 2 years..........
w4cbl Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 Thanks for the replies! Mine will be stored in tupperware with desiccant packets in a metal HazMat locker with a desiccant system. That ought to be sufficient....
