ollie1016
If you're worried about speed of your quickmatch, you're doing it wrong. I'm just inquiring mumbles. I saw your video on YouTube, however I don't have the money/ resources to make such a nice machine. I'm thinking of copying that set up but made with wood and basic materials where possible. Just a holiday project really. Any personal tips you've got would be great! - Ollie
Mumbles
It took me a bit to figure out what you were talking about. You know, I get this all the time. Mumpyro and myself are not the same person. Marks265 developed that machine anyway. Mumpyro copied the design, possibly with some alterations. I've seen some of that match in person. It definitely works well. As produced right now, there are still a few things I don't care for. The tube made from gummed tape always seems kind of fragile and prone to cracking/spliting. I'm probably just being picky and spoiled by nice commercial match being readily available. There are ways to reduce or fix this, but I don't have the time to play around. My process involves a 3 foot long 1/4" diameter dowel, a bunch of paper strips and a glue stick. If I want to make them water proof, it involves packing tape (cellophane tape). ollie1016
Oh that's confusing! Sorry! I'll have a try with a 1/4" dowel and some paper. I don't have access to commercial QM, I've fired shells with it but never made my own.
dan999ification
Pyrotechnica 9 covers rolling match pipes, not just a tube, it is rolled to allow the pipe to swell when lit. I'll take a look for the page number when I get to a computer. Dan.
USAirCreations
SkyLighter has a distant cousin to QM. Ultra fast burning visco like fuse. You have to see the video to appreciate it. I wrap two strand loosely together and tether it to my BP lift. Comes in 65' lengths with warnings on both ends and the middle letting you know this is fast burning. NEVER confuse visco and this fuse. Heads up, this is ultra fast and furious. Added bonus? They can ship it.

giod
Thanks pyrojigUPDATE: The string soaked in nitrate solution before coating in slurry was 200% better. The finished match was bent, twisted folded way more than it would ever in a real life situation and it stays lit every time. What is the ratio of kn03 to water. Hot water? ollie1016
What is the ration of kn03 to water. Hot water? Just make a saturated solution, it's worth it!
Shadowcat1969
I didn't bother to do any measuring, I just dumped a couple of tablespoons into about 3 cups of warm water, soaked the string in it, then moved the string into my slurry. Col
using 4% dex and 1% cmc makes the slurry more silky (for want of a better word). With straight dex, the slurry tends to de-water, with the added cmc you shouldnt need to add much, if any, extra water.I add 50% water/alc by weight initially and then just small increments until its the right consistancy. CMC.. hmm.. where to get it? hardware store? and I was using straight water, i guess it makes sense the 50% Alcohol would help it dry better. I mill the Dex in with my BP at 5% for granulating. Col
75/25 water alcohol is plenty. Cake decorating supply places usually carry cmc.
