Flaky234 Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Hi, I am looking into buying a press! Now I want to know what kind of press is good for pyro: I don't make more than 1 lb bp and 3lb whistle rockets. I want to buy a good press and looked two kinds off: The cheap one has no gauge and presses with 6t of force it is hydraulic.I asked a pyrotechnician about pressin with a press without a gauge and he told me you can press by feeling and the rest is experience. It costs: 70€ The other one has a gauge and presses with 12t it is also hydraulic and it has a foot pump attached to it.It costs: 240€ Which one will be suitable? (Pressing bp bucks, bp rockets, whistle rockets, star plate) Thanks
Mumbles Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The 6T will be able to handle both of those sizes of rockets. As for things like pucks and star plates, that is a different matter entirely. It depends how large of pucks and star plates. If you decide not to get the one with the gauge, you might want to look into this: http://wichitabuggywhip.com/fireworks/ptof/ptof.html

Poindexter Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I agree with the foregoing about, in general, buying the press you need to get the job done, and then going with the separate force indicator. When you wear out your press, or replace the bottle jack, you are good, just move the PFG over.
flying fish Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Mumbles, do you know what is normally used to for hydraulic fluid in those pressure to force gauges? I read the product manual and it doesn't say (sorry for the slight hijack)
