Salute Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Matawzh's bright orangeStrontium nitrate.................................72Potassium chlorate................................30Powdered shellac……………………..9Aluminium fine powder………………7Sodium hydrogen carbonate..................2 Video of 5mm pumped star:http://shrani.si/files/redp4nh.avi Do you think that is worth to contine with this composition? (sorry for my bad Ang.) (edit: it's really more orange then red, so i've changed the topic)
Pretty green flame Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Matawzh's bright redStrontium nitrate.................................72Potassium chlorate................................30Powdered shellac……………………..9Aluminium fine powder………………7Sodium hydrogen carbonate..................2Lithium chloride………………………1 Video of 5mm pumped star:http://shrani.si/files/redp4nh.avi Do you think that is worth to contine with this composition? (sorry for my bad Ang.) More orange than red if i'm honest. Drop the lithium and NaHCO3, sodium will ruin any other colour other than yellow. You should get better results then.
Salute Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 I will try, but i don't have anymore KClO3.
Salute Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 I know you can make orange out of CaCO3 but this compo was made by mistake, i screwed up by mixing in sodium bicarbonate.
Salute Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 Matawzh’s sparkling red Strontium nitrate.................................68Potassium chlorate................................28Powdered shellac……………………..9Aluminium(better titanium) ………………………………4 Video:http://shrani.si/files/red001p7ct.avi(4mm star, the sparks are not very visible on the video, it's has much more sparks in real life)
Mumbles Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 That still looks pretty orange. I'd suggest a real chlorine donor. I've said this elsewhere, A true bright color I don't feel is very possible without secondary chlorine donor. Chlorates or perchlorates are rarely enough. Are you sure your chlorate is pure enough? You've mentioned this before that you make your own KClO3. If all the sodium contamination is not removed, it could cause this orange color.
Salute Posted December 16, 2006 Author Posted December 16, 2006 You won't belive it, but it's a p.a. Pottasium chlorate(99%). I become it from my chemistry teacher in school.
Givat Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 read JamesH reaply in this thread:http://www.apcforum.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=496
Chemguy Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Add parlon, it will bring out the red more nicely, and read the thing givat linked to. If needed add boric acid at about 1%, this is keep it more stable, but keep it as low as possible because it will colour it green.
Salute Posted April 19, 2007 Author Posted April 19, 2007 Hellow after a long time. Yeah I impruved my red composition. Name of composition: Matawzh’s sparkling deep red II Composition Type: colored starCreator: I am:)Color/Effect: nice deep red with silver tailThe Composition: (by weight)Strontium nitrate...................................71 Potassium chlorate................................33 Powdered shellac...................................9 Aluminium(atomized 400mesh) ...............7 PVC......................................................9 Boric acid............................................+1 Any Precautions/Incompatabilities: quite dangerous composition. It's necessarily to add 1% of boric acid, because it make compo more stabile.Precedure/Preparation:Bind with hot ethanol, then stars are PUMPED (10mm or less, stars burn for quite long time) Video:http://kemija.org/users/matavzh/wp-content.../red%20star.avi I couldn't get out any more red.
DeAdFX Posted April 20, 2007 Posted April 20, 2007 Not to bad looking however you should probably get a slightly better video. The smoke isn't doing you any justice...
Salute Posted April 20, 2007 Author Posted April 20, 2007 Oh, I am really sorry about the video. I'll test stars with stargun and you'll get a better video. Sorry again, cheers.
