If you want your ingrendients to be very fine go for smaller sizes like 3/8 you need about 250 balls for one jar but those zirconia media are very expensive 70USD/kg you should look for used media in ebay

I use the 1/2 inch cylindrical media in my HF mills. It takes about 200 pieces, which weighs about 3 pounds, to half fill the jar. I know it's expensive but it's just so much better than lead. You won't believe how much better until you try it. In my HF mills (I have 3 of them) it cuts the milling time for BP from 12 hours to less than 3, and when I mill plain chemicals like KNO3 and Perc they come out white, not gray.

I should admit that I was lucky enough to get 20 pounds of the stuff, enough for six jars, for $50.
