Anyone tried coconut shell charcoal?

i've tried with basic nut shells. it's horible, the shells are very hard, and produces very hard carbon, whitch is pain to grind, and is not hot.

The "hairy" fiber on the outside of the coconut makes for great activated carbon, but it's supposedly not so cool for pyro. I've been told it works for tails and sparks, but thats hearsay, at best.
