Makin Charcoal from cedar

The TLUD cooking method works best when you have uniform sized pieces of wood to cook.

A mixture of different sized pieces will end up with a mixture of ash/charcoal/under-cooked charcoal.

Awesome , thanks for the input. I too realized that the consistency/size of the materials does help in getting more bang for the buck, and more predictable burntimes .

Do you have a pic Lloyd of your setup by chance? It sounds really nice.

I have a couple of pix before I added the adjustable dampers top&bottom. During testing, I just used tape over the bottom intake to evaluate if 'tuning' that flow would help at all. It did, so I added a damper valve later.

I think I once uploaded them to pyrobin. I'll have to check.

Here's the only picture of it I ever uploaded to pyrobin. This was right after most of the welding was done, but before we'd tried all the 'regulation options'.

The lighting's not great... out in the barn near the welder.
