dangerousamateur Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Hi, I still have a 2lb bag of lampblack here I got cheap once.Never touched that dirt yet. Can you suggest me some composition using it?How will it behave compared to charcoal in tigertail ect, do you have any experience?
Algenco Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 there are a few charcoal comps that use it.It adds a delicate fire dust to the tail, messy to use though
AdmiralDonSnider Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 It´s also called for in small percentages in many formulas designed for a fast burn, e.g. for use in warimono type shells. You can use it wherever airfloat charcoal is called for in such formulas. In such cases the charcaol/lampblack is included to improve ignitability and speed up the burn. Talking about 1-3% quantities (Shimizu has such formulas, for example). The material spreads well into the mix even in small amounts. Prefer it over fine charcoal because it is nicer to work with, "fattier" and thus less airborne in my experience.
TheSidewinder Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Lampblack is also used in some rocket formulas. It's said to act as an opacifier to reflect Infrared radiation away from the unburned part of the grain, reducing the chance of a CATO. But my god is that stuff messy, and if it gets on anything, especially clothing..... good luck getting it out.
